Compounds of the formula I ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are the same or different and each is hydrogen, lower alkoxy or halo, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier have been found to be useful as nootropic agents.

2,4-diamino-6-substituted-phenyl-S-triazines as nootropic agents

2,4-diamino-6-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)-1,3,5-triazine and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof in finely pulverized form so that the average particle diameter is 20 microns or less have been found to be particularly useful for the treatment of peptic ulcers. 2,4-Diamino-6-phenyl-s-triazine derivatives which are substituted in the 3-position of the phenyl ring and optionally further substituted in the 6-position demonstrate anti-ulcer and diuretic properties. A representative embodiment is 2,4-diamino-6-(3-trifluoromethylthiophenyl)-s-triazine.
