The cooling system of an engine consists of a cooling fan for cooling an engine coolant and a drive pulley which is, in turn, drivably rotated by the crank shaft of the engine. The mechanical connection between the drive pulley and the cooling fan is released during engine acceleration under urban area cruising conditions, in order to stop or slow down the rotational speed of the cooling fan.

A low noise internal combustion engine comprises a crankshaft rotatably carried by a group of bosses attached to a lower end surface of a cylinder block. The group of bosses are bridged by a frame sections to increase rigidity of the bosses against bending stress applied thereto with respect to an axis of revolution of the crankshaft.

A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine comprises an integrally formed or cast engine block having an upper half of main bearings for receiving the journal of a crankshaft, a bearing support frame secured to the bottom portion of the engine block and having a lower half of the main bearings, and a sound-insulating cover secured to the outer surface of the engine block to cover the lower part of the engine block, so that the engine noise and vibration can be effectively decreased.

A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine comprises an engine block formed with first bearing carrying portions which carry a group of upper generally semicylindrical parts of main bearings for supporting a crankshaft, and a bearing support block secured to the engine block and formed with second bearing carrying portions which carry a group of lower generally semicylindrical parts of the main bearing, so that the engine block is reinforced to prevent generation of engine noises due to low flexural rigidity of the engine block.

A child restraining seat is hung securely on a back portion of a vehicle occupant seat that has mounted therein a seating sensor, such that a child, if restrained to the child seat, will not close or energize the seating sensor. The seating sensor is circuited in a trigger circuit of an air bag corresponding to the occupant seat such that the air bag will not be inflated to its active position unless said seating sensor is energized.

A vehicle occupant restraining belt which is expansible upon collision of the vehicle. An expansible belt section is formed of a resilient or extendible peripheral wall defining an elongate cavity. Gas producing means provided on the belt section supplies the cavity with pressurized gas to expand the peripheral wall.
