A catheter includes a transmission unit that is disposed at the distal end of a tube having a lumen and has an ultrasonic wave transmitting function; a reception unit that is disposed at the distal end of the tube and has an ultrasonic wave receiving function; and an acoustic lens that is disposed so as to cover only the transmission unit among the transmission unit and the reception unit. Ultrasonic beams transmitted from the transmission unit are converged by passing through the acoustic lens, and a reflected wave reflected on biological tissue is received by the reception unit without passing through the acoustic lens. Since setting of the positions, number, and the like of the reception units is not bound by the position, size, and the like of the acoustic lens, the positions, number, and the like of the reception units can be appropriately set to improve ultrasonic reception efficiency.

An image display device includes circuitry configured to acquire, from a human body, three-dimensional image information on an inside of the human body including a biological tube using a plurality of ultrasonic sensors, specify a position, in the biological tube, where a width of a longitudinal cross-section of the biological tube is maximum using transverse cross-section information on the biological tube included in the three-dimensional image information, generate an image representing the longitudinal cross-section of the biological tube at the position specified, and output the image generated to a display.

A catheter according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a mesh member, a first hollow shaft, a front end tip, a guiding film, and a core wire. The mesh member has a tubular shape and is radially expandable and contractable. The guiding film is formed with a stretchable material and is disposed on the mesh member, the guiding film having a front end located between a base end of the front end tip and a front end of the first hollow shaft. A thickness of a base end of the guiding film is larger than a thickness of the front end of the guiding film.

A catheter according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a mesh member, a first hollow shaft, a front end tip, a guiding film, a second hollow shaft, and a core wire. The mesh member has a tubular shape and is radially expandable and contractable. The guiding film is disposed on the mesh member and has a front end located between a base end of the front end tip and a front end of the first hollow shaft. A thickness of the front end of the guiding film is larger than a thickness of a portion where a thickness of the guiding film is the smallest.

A body of a catheter includes an inner layer, a braid, and an outer layer. The braid includes first and second wires. The first and second wires can be joined together such that the distal end portion of the first wire winds itself around a side surface of the second wire. A joint includes a first joint portion positioned at the intersection point, a second joint portion positioned beyond the first wire in a width direction of the first wire, and a third joint portion positioned beyond the second wire in a width direction of the second wire. Thus, even when the first and second wires have small thicknesses for size reduction of the braid, the first and second wires can be joined together with high joint strength by increasing the area of the second joint portion or the thickness of the third joint portion.
