A ferrule for retaining a plurality of optical fibers includes a front end surface; a rear end surface; a plurality of fiber retaining holes; an accommodation hole; and a void portion. The fiber retaining holes each extend from the front end surface toward the rear end surface along a first direction. The accommodation hole is connected to the plurality of fiber retaining holes. The void portion is provided in a region around the plurality of fiber retaining holes. The fiber retaining holes include constant diameter portions extending from the front end surface along the first direction. The void portion is provided along the constant diameter portions, and is aligned with the constant diameter portions in a plane perpendicular to the first direction. A minimum value of a width in the plane of the void portion differs from an inner diameter of the constant diameter portion.

Ferrule and optical connector

Optical fiber hole forming pins configured to form optical fiber holding holes each have a first portion located adjacent to a first end surface and a second portion located adjacent to a second end surface and larger in diameter than the first portion. At least one of the plurality of optical fiber hole forming pins is different from the other optical fiber hole forming pins in position, in a first direction, of a step portion located at a boundary between the first portion configured to form a small diameter portion of each of the optical fiber holding holes and the second portion configured to form a large diameter portion of each of the optical fiber holding holes.

Method for manufacturing optical connector ferrule and optical connector ferrule

An elastic member according to an embodiment is an elastic member that biases a ferrule retaining a plurality of optical fibers in a connecting direction. The elastic member is stored in an inner housing that accommodates the ferrule, the elastic member has a space in its inside into which a 16-fiber tape fiber is inserted, and the elastic member is in a noncircular shape in a cross section intersecting with the connecting direction. The elastic member includes a pair of first portions having an outer surface opposite to a pair of inner surfaces in an arc shape of the housing, the inner surfaces being opposite to each other along a first direction intersecting with the connecting direction and a pair of second portions opposite to the tape fiber along a second direction intersecting with both of the connecting direction and the first direction.
