In monovalent group (A), Rand Rare independently hydrogen, halogen or alkyl having 1 to 20 carbons, and in the alkyl, at least one piece of &#x2014;CH&#x2014; may be replaced by &#x2014;O&#x2014; or &#x2014;S&#x2014;, and at least one piece of &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014; may be replaced by &#x2014;CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014;, and in the groups, at least one hydrogen may be replaced by halogen.

Liquid crystal composition, liquid crystal element, and use of liquid crystal composition in liquid crystal element

Shown is a method for producing a liquid crystal capsule having a particle diameter of 30 to 150 nanometers, and a method for producing a liquid crystal capsule without using a homogenizer. The disclosure concerns a method for producing a liquid crystal capsule, including a step of preparing an emulsion by performing phase inversion emulsification of a mixed material obtained by mixing a liquid crystal composition, a monomer, a surfactant, and a polymerization initiator; and a step of producing a liquid crystal capsule by applying a coacervation method to the emulsion. The disclosure also concerns a liquid crystal capsule having a liquid crystal composition, a surfactant and a capsule wall, wherein the capsule wall has a closed curved shape, the liquid crystal composition and a hydrophobic moiety of the surfactant are arranged inside the capsule wall, and a hydrophilic moiety of the surfactant is arranged outside the capsule wall.

Liquid crystal capsule and method for producing the same

A nematic liquid crystal composition has negative dielectric anisotropy and contains at least one polar compound selected from the group of compounds represented by formula (1) as a first additive, and the liquid crystal display device includes the composition. A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device using a liquid crystal composition containing a polar compound having a polymerizable group. Upon manufacturing the liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates that have no alignment film and arranged to face each other, and including a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound and a polymerizable compound as a liquid crystal layer formed between the substrates formed of an electrode group formed on either one or both of surfaces faced by each of the pair of substrates, in which at least one of the polymerizable compounds is a compound having a polar anchor group, wherein the polymerizable compound is allowed to react under conditions of 10 or more in an accumulated light quantity ratio (313 nm/254 nm) at 254 nanometers and 313 nanometers to form an alignment control layer.

Method for manufacturing liquid crystal display device and liquid crystal display device

The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device including a pair of a substrate arranged opposite to each other, an electrode group disposed on one side or both sides of the pair of substrates facing each other, a plurality of active devices connected to the electrode group, a liquid crystal alignment film disposed on each facing side of the pair of substrates, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pair of substrates, wherein the liquid crystal alignment film is manufactured by irradiating linearly polarized light to a film obtained from polyamic acid or a derivative thereof having a photoisomerization structure in the main chain or a film being subject to heat-baking so as to provide alignment-controlling capability, and the liquid crystal layer is a liquid crystal composition having negative (&#x2212;) dielectric anisotropy. By the present invention, a liquid crystal display device having improved image sticking characteristics and good alignment stability is provided.

Liquid crystal display device and method for manufacturing same

Provided is a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device that includes a photoalignment film. The photoalignment film is formed from a liquid crystal alignment agent, and aligns liquid crystal molecules horizontally to the main face of the at least one of the substrates. The liquid crystal alignment agent contains a solvent and at least two kinds of polyamic acids or their derivatives obtained by reacting diamine and tetracarboxylic dianhydride. At least two of the diamines and at least one of the tetracarboxylic dianhydrides are compounds represented by predetermined formulas. The method includes the steps of: (1) forming the film of the liquid crystal alignment agent; (2) pre-baking the film; (3) irradiating the pre-baked film with light; and (4) post-baking the irradiated film, the step (4) including an operation of post-baking the film multiple times at temperatures ranging from low to high temperatures.
