A secondary air intake system for adding air to the intake of an internal combustion engine includes an air control valve for changing the open area of a secondary air intake passage. The air control valve is opened and closed from a first and second pressure supply means. A first pressure supply means gradually supplies the first and second control pressure to operate the air control valve and open and close the secondary air intake passage in response to an air-fuel ratio signal. The first pressure supply means also supplies the second control pressure independent of the air-fuel ratio signal during a predetermined engine operating state. A second pressure supply means supplies the second control pressure separately of the first pressure supply means during a predetermined engine operating state.

Secondary air system for internal combustion engine with deceleration

An air intake side secondary air supply system for an internal combustion engine equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, employing a single source of control pressure for supplying a control pressure both into an air control valve for controlling the amount of the air intake side secondary air and an EGR control valve for controlling the amount of exhaust gas recirculation. The system is provided with a delay means for delaying the transmission of a fluctuation of pressure in the pressure chamber of the air control valve to a pressure chamber of the EGR control valve, thereby preventing adverse effects on the EGR operation due to an interaction between the air intake side secondary air supply system and the EGR system.

Air intake side secondary air supply system for an internal combustion

Apparatus to control throttle valve position during deceleration of an engine which includes a first stopper for stopping closing movement of the throttle valve at the idling position, a mechanism for removing the first stopper from operation at the time of deceleration, and a second stopper for stopping movement of the throttle valve at a closed-valve position which is beyond the idling position in the closing direction. The mechanism for removing includes a delay mechanism for delaying the foregoing removal of the first stopper at the time of deceleration.
