An electric double layer capacitor is provided with a cell, in which a pair of polarizable electrodes, which are impregnated with an electrolyte, are disposed in opposition on either side of a separator; wherein the polarizable electrodes are provided with collector electrodes, a peripheral portion of the cell is sealed by a sealing member composed of synthetic resin, and the sealing member is formed by abutting two case halves. A manufacturing method for the capacitor includes a process step of providing at least one long slit in the collector electrodes; a step of forming the case halves formed by insert molding on the collector electrodes and filling the slit, the case halves comprising a recess, one side of which extends in the lengthwise direction of the slit and, the cell being fitted into a portion inward from the slit; and a step of joining the case halves by abutting the case halves and applying ultrasonic vibration either in a perpendicular direction or a diagonal direction with respect to the lengthwise direction of the slit.

Electric double layer capacitor, electrolyte battery and method for manufacturing the same

An electric double layer capacitor is provided with a cell, in which a pair of polarizable electrodes, which are impregnated with an electrolyte, are disposed in opposition on either side of a separator; wherein the polarizable electrodes are provided with collector electrodes, and a peripheral portion of the cell is sealed by a sealing member composed of synthetic resin. The collector electrodes are composed of an alloy made of crystal grains of differing components and the collector electrodes pass through the sealing member while in intimate contact with the sealing member, extending to the outside of the sealing member. A metal plated layer made of crystal grains of a single component is formed on those locations on the collector electrodes that pass through the sealing member.

Electric double layer capacitor and electrolyte battery

A solid electrolytic capacitor formed with a dielectric coating and a solid electrolyte layer successively formed on a surface of an anode body, wherein the solid electrolyte layer includes a conductive polymer containing at least a tetrahydronaphthalenesulfonate ion and a naphthalenesulfonate ion as dopants or a conductive polymer containing at least a tetrahydronaphthalenesulfonate ion and a benzenesulfonate ion as dopants. As a result, a solid electrolytic capacitor having a low ESR and a good heat resistance is provided.

Solid electrolytic capacitor

A solid electrolytic capacitor formed with a dielectric coating and a solid electrolyte layer successively formed on a surface of an anode body, wherein the solid electrolyte layer includes a conductive polymer containing at least a fluoroalkylnaphthalenesulfonate ion as a dopant. The conductive polymer can further contain a tetrahydronaphthalenesulfonate ion, a naphthalenesulfonate ion or a benzenesulfonate ion as the dopant. As a result, a solid electrolytic capacitor having a low ESR and a good heat resistance is provided.

A combined thin film magnetic head includes a magnetoresistive reproducing head part and an inductive recording head part. The magnetoresistive reproducing head part is defined between a lower shielding layer and a merged core layer. The inductive recording head part is defined between the merged core layer and an upper core layer and is configured to specify a track width for the recording head part by providing the upper core layer in a localized region W.sub.2. A method of fabricating the magnetic head includes steps of forming an etching-protective layer on a gap layer so as to provide an exposed region W.sub.1 left uncovered which is larger than the localized region W.sub.2 in which the upper core layer is to be finally confined, depositing the upper core layer over the entire surfaces thereof, and etching the upper core layer so as to finally confine the etched upper core layer in the localized region W.sub.2. In a preliminary process, the merged core layer is formed to have an elevated part at a location corresponding to the localized region, and an insulating layer is deposited around the elevated part of the merged core layer, before the gap layer is deposited entirely over the elevated part and the localized region.

Method for fabricating a combined thin film magnetic head

The invention provides a thin film magnetic head including an upper core layer 9 which comprises a front first core layer 91a formed on a gap spacer layer 6 and having the same width as a track width on the recording medium at least in the vicinity of the face to be opposed to a recording medium, and a second core layer 92 extending from the medium-opposed face over the upper surface of the front first core layer 91a and further over the upper surface of an upper insulating layer 72. The upper core layer 9 has a thickness greater in a region extending from the medium-opposed face to a depth end restricting face DE of a lower insulating layer 71 than in a region extending over the upper surface of the upper insulating layer 72. The front first core layer 91a has an upper surface flush with the upper surface of the lower insulating layer 71. This structure gives an accurate track width and assures production with a high yield.

Process for producing thin film magnetic heads

An optical material contains a photochromic compound which is expressed in the following general formula (I): ##STR1## where A represents an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom, or a substituted nitrogen atom, B represents a thiophene ring, benzothiophene ring, pyrrole ring or indole ring, R.sub.1 represents a methyl group, an alkoxy group or a perfluoroalkyl group, R.sub.2 to R.sub.7 represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, an alkyl group and the like respectively. This photochromic compound may be bonded with a polymer as a side chain in the position of A.

Optical material

An optical recording medium includes a recording layer, and a masking layer which is converted to a state having small absorption at the wavelength of a reproducing beam due to progress of decoloration caused by a thermal reaction upon irradiation with the reproducing beam, or due to facilitation of decoloration caused by a photon mode photochromic reaction through temperature rise upon irradiation with the reproducing beam.

Disclosed herein is an optical recording medium comprising a recording layer containing a photochromic material and a polymer which are so combined with each other that a photostationary state attained upon irradiation with light of a specific wavelength is varied with temperatures, a reflective layer for reflecting light which is passed through the recording layer, and a substrate for supporting a laminate of the recording layer and the reflective layer.

Optical recording medium

A recording medium comprises a recording layer, a birefringent layer, and a reflecting layer. The recording layer is formed of a material whose optical rotatory power is alterable such that in one state no optical rotatory power is present and, in a second state, optical rotatory power is present. Information is recorded in the recording layer by selectively altering the state of the recording layer. The birefringent layer is formed of a material having constant birefringence without regard to the state of the recording layer. The reflecting layer reflects a light beam transmitted through the recording layer and the birefringent layer to reintroduce the beam into the birefringent layer and the recording layer. A method of reproducing information from this recording medium applies a polarized light beam to the recording medium and detects change of the polarized state of the polarized light beam reflected from the recording medium, thereby reading the information recorded in the recording layer. Disclosed herein is a recording/reproducing method for an optical recording medium comprising a step of heating a recording layer containing a photochromic material and a polymer which are so combined with each other that a photostationary state attained upon irradiation with light of a specific wavelength is varied with temperatures, and a step of applying the light of a specific wavelength to the heated recording layer for bringing the same into a photostationary state and recording information. In order to reproduce the information, a portion of the recording layer which is in a photostationary state is selectively heated, and reproducing light is applied to reproduce recorded and unrecorded states.

An optical head device for projecting a light beam on a recording medium to record data thereon or reproduce the recorded data comprises an optical system for forming a beam spot of a specified diameter on the surface of the recording medium, and a transparent contact member disposed at a light emanating portion of the system for the recording medium to come into direct sliding contact therewith. Accordingly, when the contact member moves relative to the recording medium, the dust adhering to the surface of medium is removed by the contact member to assure a recording or reproduction operation free of errors.
