An internal combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders and transmission arranged adjoining the engine. If designating an average height of a combustion chamber in a region inside from a virtual cylindrical surface passing through center of a valve body of an intake valve and extending in a circumferential direction of each cylinder when a piston is at top dead center, as 'center height', and designating average of a height of the combustion chamber in a region outside from the virtual cylindrical surface when the piston is at top dead center, as 'peripheral height', the combustion chambers form a center height of a transmission side cylinder positioned most to the transmission side among the plurality of cylinders is higher than center heights of usual cylinders including one cylinder other than the transmission side cylinder and a peripheral height at the transmission side cylinder lower than peripheral heights of usual cylinders.

Internal combustion engine

A control system of a Miller cycle engine includes an ECU. The ECU executes an early closing Miller cycle operating mode in which a variable valve mechanism is controlled to close an intake valve before an intake bottom dead center. The ECU executes a decompression mode in which the variable valve mechanism is controlled to close the intake valve at a point later than the intake BDC, when the engine is started. The electronic control unit executes the early closing Miller cycle operating mode after completion of the decompression mode. A later closing amount of the intake valve relative to the intake BDC, for use in the decompression mode, is larger than an early closing amount of the intake valve relative to the intake BDC when the closing timing of the intake valve is most advanced.

Control system of miller cycle engine and method of controlling miller cycle engine

In a turbine housing of a twin entry type turbocharger, a first scroll chamber communicating with a first exhaust manifold, and a second scroll chamber communicating with a second exhaust manifold are provided. A surface area of the first exhaust manifold is configured to be larger than a surface area of the second exhaust manifold, and these exhaust manifolds are cooled by a cooling mechanism. In the turbine housing, a first and second cooling water passages are respectively provided to cover the first and second scroll chambers. An internal combustion engine includes a cooling device that causes cooling water to flow into the first and second cooling water passages, and the cooling device is configured so that a temperature of the cooling water that is introduced into the second cooling water passage becomes lower than a temperature of cooling water that is introduced into the first cooling water passage.

A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine is configured to: open a waste gate valve if switching operation modes from supercharged lean burn operation to stoichiometric burn operation and if it is necessary to decrease an air amount; control an exhaust variable valve train so that, during a response delay period accompanying the waste gate valve being opened, a first valve opening period EXand a second valve opening period EXare set and the second valve opening period overlaps with a valve opening period IN; control a fuel injection valve so as to inject fuel of an amount necessary to realize the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio under a stoichiometric requested air amount during the response delay period; and control the second valve opening period EXof the exhaust valve so that, during the response delay period, the air amount comes close to the requested air amount.

Control apparatus for internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas recirculation device capable of restraining generation of condensate water in an EGR path after engine stoppage is provided. When ignition is switched from ON to OFF, fuel injection is prohibited. As a result, a gas (fresh air) that flows into a cylinder after the switching is discharged into an exhaust passage without burning. In the present invention, a valve opening timing of an exhaust valve is changed so that a high peak portion of a pulsation of the gas arises at an EGR branch point, and the EGR valve is opened. Thereby, the fresh air flowing in the exhaust passage can be introduced into an EGR passage, and therefore an EGR gas in the EGR passage can be replaced with the fresh air.

Exhaust gas recirculation device

Provided is a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine, which can adequately perform the control of a fuel injection amount even when an abnormality, a disconnection or the like of a fuel pressure sensor occurs and thereby accurate fuel pressure information is not able to be obtained. A fuel injection valve () is provided which is capable of directly injecting fuel into a cylinder. If a target fuel injection amount is smaller than a minimum fuel injection amount that is minimum and is capable of injecting during one opening and closing operation of the fuel injection valve (), the start timing of fuel injection is set within a period in which an exhaust valve is opened during an exhaust stroke.

An exhaust gas recirculation system according to the present invention includes an EGR passage for introducing a part of exhaust gas emitted from an engine to an intake passage, the EGR passage communicating at one end thereof with the intake passage whereas at the other end thereof with an exhaust passage, an EGR control valve for controlling the flow rate of the exhaust gas flowing therein, the EGR control valve being disposed at one end of the EGR passage, an on-off valve for opening or closing the EGR passage, the on-off valve being disposed at the other end of the EGR passage, and a heat exchanger for cooling the exhaust gas introduced to the EGR passage, the heat exchanger) being disposed nearer the other end of the EGR passage than the on-off valve.

In a V-type 8-cylinder engine in which the torque for rotating an intake camshaft is higher when intake valves of a #1 cylinder and a #3 cylinder in a left bank are closed, respective noses of a cam for opening and closing the intake valve of the #1 cylinder and a cam for opening and closing the intake valve of the #3 cylinder are each formed at a phase position displaced by X&#xb0; (X&#x3e;0) in the advance direction further from the phase position displaced in the advance direction by 90&#xb0; with respect to the nose of a cam for opening and closing the intake valve of a cylinder fired after a delay of 180&#xb0; in crank angle.

An intake port of an internal combustion engine having an intake passage curved to a certain direction and communicated with a combustion chamber of the engine to send air into the combustion chamber, provided with a groove provided in a wall at a side near a center of curvature of said intake passage in the wall defining the intake passage and extending along the flow of air in the intake passage, at least one long edge formed by one side wall of the wall defining said groove and the wall adjoining said side wall in the wall defining the intake passage, extending along the flow of air in the intake passage, and projecting out toward the inside of the intake passage, and a bent part provided at the wall of the side near the center of curvature of the intake passage in the wall defining the intake passage in proximity to a line connecting the intake passage and combustion chamber and extending in a horizontal direction with respect to the flow of air in the intake passage.
