[Technical Problem] An object is to provide a heat insulation coat having a novel form/structure different from conventional ones. [Solution to Problem] The present invention provides a heat insulation coat having a spongy body that is composed of non-linear pores and a skeleton incorporating the pores. The skeleton is an amorphous body comprising Al, Si, O, and impurities and has an amorphous peak specified by X-ray diffraction analysis at a position of 3.5 &#x212b; or more as the lattice spacing. The heat insulation coat has an apparent density of 1 g/cmor less, a volumetric specific heat of 1,000 kJ/m&#xb7;K or less, and a thermal conductivity of 2 W/m&#xb7;K or less. The spongy body is obtained through forming a base layer, such as by thermal-spraying an aluminum alloy that contains a large amount of Si, and performing an anodizing process by AC/DC superimposition energization on the base layer. The amount of Si in the base layer may be, for example, 16 to 48 mass % with respect to the alloy as a whole. The heat insulation coat of the present invention is excellent in the swing characteristics and may be provided on the inner wall surface of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine.

The present embodiment relates to an internal combustion engine having an anodic oxide coating formed on at least a portion of an aluminum-based wall surface facing a combustion chamber. The anodic oxide coating has a plurality of nanopores extending substantially in the thickness direction of the anodic oxide coating, a first micropore extending from the surface toward the inside of the anodic oxide coating, and a second micropore present in the inside of the anodic oxide coating; the surface opening diameter of the nanopores is 0 nm or larger and smaller than 30 nm; the inside diameter of the nanopores is larger than the surface opening diameter; the film thickness of the anodic oxide coating is 15 &#x3bc;m or larger and 130 &#x3bc;m or smaller; and the porosity of the anodic oxide coating is 23% or more.

A forming method of a thermal insulation film includes a first step of forming an anode oxidation coating film on an aluminum-based wall surface, the anode oxidation coating film including micro-pores each having a diameter of micrometer-scale and nano-pores each having a diameter of nanometer-scale; and a second step of coating a surface of the anode oxidation coating film with a sealant containing filler to seal at least part of the micro-pores and the nano-pores by the sealant so as to form the thermal insulation film.

The coating film removal method is adapted to remove a carbon-based coating film from a coated member () including a substrate, and the carbon-based coating film coated on at least a portion of a surface of the substrate while containing carbon as a main component. The coating film removal method includes bringing a molten salt having an oxidizing function for carbon into contact with the carbon-based coating film, to remove at least a portion of the carbon-based coating film coated over the surface of the substrate. A coated member regeneration method includes removing the carbon-based coating film from the coated member, using such coating film removal method, and subsequently forming a coating film on at least a portion of a surface of the film-removed member ().

A low-friction sliding member is used under a wet condition employing a lubricant, and includes a substrate having a surface, and an amorphous hard carbon film formed on the surface of the substrate for contacting slidably with a mating member. The amorphous hard carbon film includes silicon in an amount of from 1 atomic % or more to 20 atomic % or less, hydrogen in an amount of from 20 atomic % or more to 50 atomic % or less, and the balance of carbon and inevitable impurities, when the entirety is taken as 100 atomic %, and exhibits a surface roughness Rzof 0.8 &#x3bc;m or less. The low-friction sliding member exhibits reduced friction coefficients between itself and mating members, without relying on the adsorption and reaction of additives, included in lubricants, to the amorphous hard carbon films.

A method for bonding valve seats for intake and exhaust valves to an engine cylinder head. Valve seats are brazed to an aluminum cylinder head using an Al--Zn type brazing material and a fluoride type flux. The brazing material contains 70 to 90 % by weight of Zn. The brazing is preferably carried out at a temperature of 470.degree. to 520.degree. C. To allow the brazing material and flux to be present between the cylinder head and each valve seat, the cylinder head contains U-grooves formed around the opening of each intake or exhaust port. The U-groove consists of an annular step formed along the opening of the intake or exhaust port and a bank extended along the inner circumference of the step. The valve seats are placed in the U-grooves, which are then filled with the brazing material and flux, to carry out brazing of the valve seats onto the cylinder head. After completion of the brazing, the banks are removed to complete bonding of the valve seats to the cylinder head. In another method, a valve seat is directly bonded to a cylinder head by applying a fluoride type flux on the valve seat.
