The liquid discharge head has a heater resistor for heating liquid in a liquid route communicating with a discharge port and generating bubbles and a switch circuit for switching on/off the current to be supplied to the heater resistor. One end of the heater resistor is connected to a power-supply potential, one end of the switch circuit is connected to a ground potential, and the other end of the heater resistor and the other end of the switch circuit are connected to each other. The liquid discharge head has a detection circuit for detecting the voltage of the connection point between the heater resistor and the switch circuit and outputting an output signal when a predetermined change occurs in the voltage, and a switch control circuit for controlling the switching on/off of the switch circuit in accordance with the output signal.

A method for manufacturing a liquid ejection head having a substrate including an electro-thermal transducer for ejecting a liquid from an ejection opening, an electrode wiring section electrically connecting the electro-thermal transducer and driver element thereof, and a liquid supply port therethrough includes the steps of forming a sacrificial layer by using the same material as the electrode wiring section at a position at which the liquid supply port is to be formed during forming the electrode wiring section, forming an anti-etching layer covering the sacrificial layer, removing the sacrificial layer by etching the substrate from a surface thereof opposite to the surface on which the electro-thermal transducer is formed to expose the anti-etching layer of a portion to be the liquid supply port, and removing the exposed anti-etching layer to form the liquid supply port in the substrate.

A recording head records data by correcting a variation among recording elements without significantly increasing a size of a substrate of the recording head. The recording head includes a plurality of heat generating elements and a circuit for energizing the heat generating elements in accordance with record data to record data. Selection information for selecting one of a plurality of pre-heat pulse signals is non-volatilly stored in a ROM and one of the pre-heat signal pulses applied to an input terminal is selected in accordance with the selection information stored in the ROM to pre-heat the heat generating elements.

A downsized, low-cost, high-density printhead, a printing apparatus and a printing method using the printhead can be achieved. If the number of electrothermal transducers is N, a shift register is capable of storing print information corresponding to N/8 electrothermal transducers. First, print information corresponding to the capacity of the shift register is transferred to the printhead. Then, the shifting function of the shift register is stopped to hold the print information. A 3-bit selection signal is inputted from an input terminal as the print information information. The selection signal is sent to a time-divisional logical circuit, then N/8 electrothermal transducers are selected, and a printing operation based on the input data is performed. This operation is repeated eight times, to complete printing by all the N electrothermal transducers.

The wiring is formed by depositing a conductive material such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy in the groove or hole of the insulation layer by a CVD method utilizing alkylaluminum hydride gas and hydrogen.
