Provided is a resin composition for use in producing a resin film by solution casting, the resin composition including a methacrylic polymer that has excellent heat resistance and that allows for a high evaporation rate of a solvent when the solvent is evaporated from a cast layer in solution casting. The resin composition for use in film production by solution casting includes a methacrylic polymer (a), and the methacrylic polymer (a) is a copolymer including a methyl methacrylate unit and at least one drying-accelerating comonomer unit and has a glass transition temperature of 110° C. or higher. The drying-accelerating comonomer unit is preferably selected from the group consisting of: an N-substituted maleimide monomer unit; a methacrylic ester unit containing an ester moiety in the form of a primary, secondary, or aromatic hydrocarbon group having 2 to 8 carbon atoms; a methacrylic ester unit containing an ester moiety in the form of a saturated hydrocarbon group having a fused ring structure and having 7 to 16 carbon atoms; a methacrylic ester unit containing an ester moiety in the form of a linear or branched group containing an ether bond; and a styrenic monomer unit.

Resin composition and dope for use in film production by solution casting

Provided is a dope used when a film containing an acrylic-based resin and a core-shell type graft copolymer is made by a solution casting method, in which turbidity is less likely to occur despite the use of a core-shell type graft copolymer having a core layer with a large particle diameter. A dope for producing a film by a solution casting method contains a thermoplastic acrylic-based resin, a graft copolymer, and a solvent. In this dope, the graft copolymer has a core layer and a shell layer, the core layer has an average particle diameter of 125 to 400 nm, the graft copolymer has a degree of swelling by methyl ethyl ketone of 3.5 or more, and the solvent has a hydrogen bonding term &#x3b4;H in a Hansen solubility parameter of 6.0 or more and 8.0 or less.

Dope for producing film and film production method

An optical resin composition includes a thermoplastic resin and a cross-linked structure-containing polymer. A photoelastic constant of the cross-linked structure-containing polymer and a photoelastic constant of the thermoplastic resin are opposite in sign, and a molded article with a thickness of 2 mm formed from the optical resin composition has a haze of 6% or less.

An acrylic resin composition includes an acrylic resin and a graft copolymer. The graft copolymer includes an inner layer and an outer layer. The inner layer is a soft polymer (B) having, as structural units, a monomer mixture (b) containing 40 to 99 wt % of an alkyl acrylate ester, 1 to 60 wt % of benzyl (meth)acrylate, and 0 to 40 wt % of another monomer and 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer; and the outer layer is a hard polymer (C) having, as structural units, a monomer mixture (c) containing 60 to 100 wt % of an alkyl methacrylate ester, 0 to 10 wt % of benzyl (meth)acrylate, and 40 to 0 w % of another monomer and 0 to 10 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer.

A graft copolymer includes: an inner layer made of a hard polymer (I) obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture including 40 to 100 wt % of a methacrylate ester 0 to 15 wt % of an aromatic vinyl monomer, and 0 to 45 wt % of another copolymerizable monomer and 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer; an intermediate layer made of a soft polymer (II) obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture including 60 to 100 wt % of an acrylate ester and 0 to 40 wt % of another copolymerizable monomer, 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of allyl (meth)acrylate, and a di(meth)acrylic compound; and an outer layer made of a hard polymer (III) obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture including 40 to 100 wt % of a methacrylate ester and 60 to 0 wt % of another copolymerizable monomer and 0 to 10 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer.

Graft copolymer and acrylic resin composition containing same

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical resin material and an optical film, which are very small in both orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence, excellent in transparency, have few defects due to foreign substances, and are excellent in heat resistance and mechanical strength. Provided is an optical resin material containing a graft copolymer (C) obtained by polymerizing a vinyl-based monomer mixture (B) in the presence of a vinyl-based polymer (A) having at least one crosslinked structure layer, wherein the graft copolymer (C) has an orientation birefringence of &#x2212;15&#xd7;10to 15&#xd7;10and a photoelastic constant of &#x2212;10&#xd7;10to 10&#xd7;10Pa.

Optical resin material and optical film

An object of the present invention is to provide a resin material capable of producing a molded body having few defects due to foreign substances, having high mechanical strength, very small in both orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence, and having high transparency, and having high transparency even when such a resin material is stretched. Provided is a resin composition containing a resin (A) and a multilayer structure polymer (B), wherein the multilayer structure polymer (B) has a crosslinked polymer layer and a hard polymer layer, and the hard polymer layer has at least two different hard polymer layers, at least one of which is a hard polymer layer (C) opposite in sign of a photoelastic constant to that of the resin (A).

Resin composition and film thereof

Disclosed herein are an optical resin composition whose orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence are both very low and which has high transparency and which provides a film having few surface defects and excellent mechanical strength, and a film comprising the optical resin composition. Also disclosed herein is a film that has optical isotropy and excellent transparency even after stretching. The optical resin composition contains a thermoplastic resin and a multistep-polymerized graft copolymer obtained by polymerizing, in the presence of crosslinked polymer-containing particles formed by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing a monomer represented by the following formula (4) and a polyfunctional monomer, a monomer mixture containing a monomer represented by the following formula (4) and another monofunctional monomer copolymerizable therewith. 

Optical resin composition and film

An optical resin composition from which a film with improved adhesion to a polyvinyl alcohol-based film and improved flex resistance can be obtained while keeping high film transparency. The optical resin composition includes: 99 to 50% by weight of an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature of not lower than 110&#xb0; C.; and 1 to 50% by weight of a particulate (meth)acrylic multilayer structure graft copolymer containing: an innermost layer made of a polymer containing a methacrylic acid ester as a first monomer; a middle layer made of a polymer containing, as a second monomer, an acrylic acid alkyl ester having an alkyl group with 4 to 12 carbon atoms; and an outermost layer made of a polymer containing a methacrylic acid ester as a third monomer. A graft ratio of the (meth)acrylic multilayer structure graft copolymer is not less than 110%.

A resin composition includes an acrylic resin and a graft copolymer having a gel content of 65% to 84%, wherein the graft copolymer is a multistage-polymerized graft copolymer obtained by a multistage polymerization including the polymerization stages (I) to (III). In the polymerization stage (I), a first monomer mixture and a polyfunctional monomer are polymerized in a presence of a primary alkyl mercaptan-based chain transfer agent and/or a secondary alkyl mercaptan-based chain transfer agent to obtain a first hard polymer. In the polymerization stage (II), a second monomer mixture and a polyfunctional monomer are polymerized to obtain a soft polymer. In the polymerization stage (III), a third monomer mixture and a polyfunctional monomer are polymerized to obtain a second hard polymer.

Acrylic resin composition, and molded product and film made from same

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical thermoplastic resin having excellent transparency and color tone, and also excellent heat stability, as well as being extremely low in both orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence; and a formed body made of said resin. This optical thermoplastic resin has a rate of reduction in melt viscosity of less than 20%, an orientation birefringence of &#x2212;1.7&#xd7;10to 1.7&#xd7;10, a photoelastic constant of &#x2212;2&#xd7;10to 2&#xd7;10Pa, and, when formed into a 2 mm-thick formed body, has a haze of 1% or less.

Optical thermoplastic resin and formed body

The present invention provides a resin material and a film made of the resin material, the resin material being able to form a molded body having high transparency, excellent mechanical strength, few foreign matter defects, excellent heat stability, excellent solvent resistance, and extremely good appearance. The resin material contains a thermoplastic resin (A) and a polymer (B) satisfying the following conditions. That is, the polymer (B) is a graft copolymer obtained by multistep polymerization, and at least one step of the multistep polymerization is polymerization of a monomer mixture containing: a (meth)acrylic monomer having a ring structure; and (meth)acrylic acid and/or its salt.

Resin material and film thereof

Disclosed herein is a non-birefringent resin material that is very small in both orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence, has high transparency, and is capable of providing a molded article having few foreign matter defects and a film made of such a material. The non-birefringent resin material contains a resin (A) and a polymer (B) and has an orientation birefringence of &#x2212;1.7&#xd7;10to 1.7&#xd7;10and a photoelastic constant of &#x2212;4&#xd7;10to 4&#xd7;10Pa.

Non-birefringent resin material and film

Disclosed herein are an optical resin composition whose orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence are both very low and which has high transparency and which provides a film having few surface defects, high heat stability, high solvent resistance, and excellent surface appearance, and a film comprising the optical resin composition. The optical resin composition comprises: a resin (A) having a maleimide unit represented by the formula (5) and a (meth)acrylic ester unit; and a glutarimide acrylic resin (B). The resin composition may further comprise multi-layered particles. 

Provided herein is a (meth)acrylic resin that has less impurities and is less likely to deteriorate in transparency or turn yellow during molding processing, which is not obtainable by conventional suspension polymerization. The invention is a method for producing a methyl methacrylate polymer, comprising suspension polymerization of 30 to 100 wt % of methyl methacrylate and 70 to 0 wt % of a monomer copolymerizable therewith to produce a methyl methacrylate polymer, wherein the polymerization is initiated in the presence of 350 ppm or less of a suspension stabilizer relative to the monomer(s) and then a suspension stabilizer is added when a polymerization conversion ratio reaches 20 to 90%.
