In a storage management system in which a storage apparatus is connected via a network to a volume allocation management server having a performance requirement analysis unit, a volume allocation unit, and a volume performance determining unit, the performance requirements of a business application using volume-allocating data and the performance characteristics of a volume serving as a data storage destination are determined, and on the basis of the resulting information, a volume which satisfies the performance requirements is selected as the data storage destination.

Volume selection method and information processing system

A volume group comprising one or a plurality of logical volumes is set. A coexistence avoidance volume group having different array groups can be set to the volume group. Upon execution of preset volume search criteria, a logical volume is specified by carrying out a search in which are excluded array groups to which logical volumes in the coexistence avoidance volume belong.

Data migration method and information processing system

The present invention provides a data migration technique enabling a required performance to be satisfied as closely as possible. A server obtains an IOPS measurement value of a plurality of business APs and an IOPS measurement value of a plurality of logical volumes serving as the access destinations of the respective business APs, and on the basis of the various obtained IOPS measurement values, selects a source sub-candidate from a plurality of VOLs. The server identifies a parity group to which the selected source sub-candidate belongs from a plurality of parity groups, sets the two or more VOLs belonging to the identified parity group as two or more source candidates, and selects a plurality of target candidates from a plurality of other VOLs. The server then selects the source candidate/target candidate pair that is forecast to perform migration most favorably and/or forecast to produce the most favorable migration result, and performs data migration from the source to the target constituting the selected pair.

Data migration method and system

The data migration method of this invention is for a computer system. The data migration method is characterized in that the storage system measures, for each logical volume, a used I/O amount and a storage capacity of the logical volume, the management computer manages the logical volumes in groups by storing the association relation between the logical volumes and the groups, the management computer obtains, from the storage system, the used I/O amount of the logical volume and storage capacity, which are measured by the storage system, the management computer identifies a logical volume to which data is to be moved based on the ratio of the obtained I/O amount of the logical volume to the obtained storage capacity of the logical volume, and the management computer instructs the storage system to move data from the data's original logical volume to the logical volume designated as the migration destination.

To provide a file system including: a storage system having a plurality of volumes; a volume allocation table adapted to set the plurality of volumes for each directory; a file allocation table that stores attributes and divided block information of the file; a block reading table in which numbers of blocks read out in one reading operation for each volume are respectively set; and a read control module that controls to read data from the volume; wherein a read control module, when a read command is received, determines a volume to be read from the volume allocation table, determines the number of blocks read for each volume by referring to the block reading table, determines the blocks read for each volume based on the volume, the number of blocks, and the block information, and reads from each volume in parallel.
