A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a second substrate, a retardation layer, and a polarizer in this order from a back face side, and includes a plurality of pixels arrayed in a matrix shape, in which the first substrate includes a reflective layer that reflects light, a first electrode and a second electrode that are capable of generating a transverse electrical field in the liquid crystal layer, and a first horizontal alignment film that is in contact with the liquid crystal layer, the second substrate includes a second horizontal alignment film in contact with the liquid crystal layer, the retardation layer includes a λ/4 plate and a λ/2 plate, the liquid crystal layer includes a positive-type liquid crystal material or a negative-type liquid crystal material, and has a twist alignment when no voltage is applied, and an angle formed by a polarization axis of the polarizer and an alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules defined by the first horizontal alignment film is within a predetermined range.

Liquid crystal display device

To provide a liquid crystal display device including a plurality of pixels arrayed in a matrix shape that includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a reflective layer, a first electrode and a second electrode capable of generating a transverse electrical field in the liquid crystal layer, and a first horizontal alignment film, at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode includes a plurality of belt-shaped portions and a slit located between two adjacent belt-shaped portions of the plurality of belt-shaped portions, in each pixel, the plurality of belt-shaped portions have a linear shape extending substantially parallel to each other and in the same direction, and do not include a bending part, the second substrate includes a second horizontal alignment film and the liquid crystal layer takes a twist alignment when no voltage is applied.

Provided is a liquid crystal display device that can achieve high-speed response in both rise time and fall time and has a high transmittance, a high contrast ratio, and excellent viewing angle characteristics. The liquid crystal display device provides color display using a field sequential driving system where each frame period includes subframe periods and includes: a liquid crystal display panel; a light source that irradiates the liquid crystal display panel with lights of multiple colors; and a controller that drives the light source to time-divisionally irradiate the liquid crystal display panel with the lights of multiple colors. The liquid crystal display panel includes, sequentially in the following order: a first substrate including pixel electrodes; a first alignment film; a liquid crystal layer; a second alignment film; and a second substrate including a common electrode.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate disposed more to a viewer side than the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate, with a plurality of pixels being arrayed in a matrix shape. Each pixel includes a reflective region for display in a reflection mode. Liquid crystal panel and liquid crystal display device

A plurality of pixel electrodes each forming one pixel are provided on a TFT substrate. A size of a pixel electrode located at a boundary portion between a non-rectangular active area and a frame region, which is an area outside the active area, is smaller than a size of a pixel electrode not located at the boundary portion. In such a configuration, a voltage is always applied to the plurality of pixel electrodes.

A display device includes a substrate including a display region including three or more divided regions disposed in a first direction on a main surface, a scanning line extending in a first direction, a data line extending in a second direction, a plurality of pixels, and a scanning line connection wiring line extending in the second direction, which are disposed in each divided region, a plurality of data line drive circuits respectively connected to the data lines in each divided region, and a plurality of scanning line drive circuits corresponding to each divided region. The scanning line drive circuits and the data line drive circuits are respectively arrayed in the first direction outside the display region, each of the scanning line connection wiring lines electrically connects the scanning line drive circuit to the scanning line, and the scanning line drive circuit and the data line drive circuit display an image in at least one of the three or more divided regions at a frame frequency different from that in the other divided regions.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate disposed on a viewer side relative to the first substrate, a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate, a polarizer disposed on the viewer side relative to the liquid crystal layer, and a phase difference layer disposed between the polarizer and the liquid crystal layer, and also includes a plurality of pixels arrayed in a matrix shape. The first substrate includes a reflective layer that reflects light, a first electrode and a second electrode that can generate a transverse electrical field in the liquid crystal layer, and a first horizontal alignment film in contact with the liquid crystal layer. The second substrate includes a second horizontal alignment film in contact with the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer takes a twist alignment when no voltage is applied.

Liquid crystal display device having an improved contrast ratio

The display device includes: a color display element including pixels that are arranged in a row direction and in a column direction and each include sub-pixels of different colors; and a liquid crystal display panel stacked with the color display element, the liquid crystal display panel including a TFT substrate, a counter substrate, and a liquid crystal layer, the TFT substrate including first bus lines extending in a first direction, second bus lines extending in a second direction intersecting the first direction, and display electrodes each at a position corresponding to an intersection of one of the first bus lines and one of the second bus lines, at least one of the first bus lines and at least one of the second bus lines each overlapping at least some sub-pixels of all colors among the sub-pixels of different colors of the color display element in a plan view.

A liquid crystal panel is a normally-black mode segment liquid crystal panel, and includes a plurality of pixels that are arrayed in substantial tessellation of an active region, as viewed from a direction of the normal of a first substrate, and a plurality of auxiliary electrodes that each have a portion that overlaps a gap between two pixels that are adjacent to each other, as viewed from the direction of the normal of the first substrate. A plurality of pixel electrodes, a common electrode, the plurality of auxiliary electrodes, and portions of a plurality of signal lines that are present in the active region are made of a transparent electroconductive material. The auxiliary electrodes are electrically connected to one of two pixel electrodes of the two pixels.

Liquid crystal panel, display device, and dimming device

A liquid crystal display device includes a display region, and includes a first liquid crystal panel including a color filter layer, an illumination device provided on a back face side of the first liquid crystal panel, and a second liquid crystal panel arranged between the first liquid crystal panel and the illumination device and not including a color filter layer. The second liquid crystal panel includes a first dimming region defined by a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix including a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns and facing the display region, and a second dimming region that is defined by a plurality of additional pixels each including an unshaded opening region, and is located outside the first dimming region.
