A functional sheet is brought into intimate contact with a front surface of a plasma display panel, and the functional sheet has a structure in which heat diffusion is superior to heat insulation between the plasma display panel and outside air. In addition, a display device includes a controller for controlling a drive voltage pulse train so that power consumption in a unit area in a light emission region within the screen is limited under a set value when one image is displayed.

Display device and display panel device

A display panel device includes a front sheet that is glued on a front face of a plasma display panel. The front sheet includes a mesh made of a light shield member that has a blackened front surface and a plane size larger than a screen. A length between diagonal lattice points of the mesh is shorter than a cell pitch that is longer one of the cell pitches in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction of the screen. An arrangement direction of the mesh is inclined with respect to an arrangement direction of the cells in the screen.

A front sheet that is a layered film glued on a front face of a display panel includes a front portion made of plural layers having the same plane size and different functions and a rear portion having a plane size smaller than the front portion and larger than the screen, and the rear portion is put on the front face of the display panel.

To maximize the efficiency of utilization of mother substrates used as material for the substrates in the flat display panel to form a display screen, the flat display panel includes a display screen formed by tetragonal first and second substrates. Four sides or opposite two sides forming a tetragonal peripheral edge of the first substrate are rendered to be substantially equal to those of the second substrate, and the first and second substrate are sandwiched together with one of the first and second substrates protruding in part outwardly from the peripheral edge of the other of the first and second substrates.

A plasma display panel in which projections are formed in grooves between partitions and phosphor layers are provided on the projections so as to increase the area where phosphor adheres and thereby to increase the luminance. A couple of substrates are opposed to each other to form a discharge space. Band-like partitions partitioning the discharge space are arranged on the back or front substrate. Wall-like projections lower than the partitions and high enough to increase the area where phosphor layers are formed are provided in the region where the discharge space is formed in the long grooves between the partitions or around the discharge space. Phosphor layers are formed in the grooves between the partitions including the wall-like projections. A method for producing such a plasma display panel is also disclosed.

A gas discharge display device for displaying a color image by means of red, green and blue fluorescent substances, wherein a color to be reproduced by light-emission of the red, green and blue fluorescent substances for displaying a white pixel is set to be different from a white color intended for display, and a filter is disposed on a front side of the red, green and blue fluorescent substances for approximating a display color of the white pixel to the white color intended for display.

The present invention is characterized in that the PDP drive means makes correction so as to decrease the emission intensity of green or to increase the emission intensity of blue as the display load factor increases compared with the case when the display load factor is lower. Such a correction is effective when the monochromatic emission luminance of the fluorescent substance has such a saturation characteristic that the decrease in green is greater than blue as the emission frequency increases. Therefore, when the saturation characteristic is the opposite in terms of the relationship between green and blue, the increase/decrease of the emission intensity in the above correction must be the opposite.

A plasma display panel is provided in which color temperature of the displayed color can be optimized while securing the gradation reproducibility and the stability of driving. The plasma display panel includes a screen in which a plurality of cells arranged in rows and columns emits light by electric discharge between a pair of main electrodes, and each pixel of matrix display has first, second and third cells having different light colors. At least one of the effective area of the main electrode, the thickness of the dielectric layer, the relative dielectric constant of the dielectric material, and the area of the light shield for the first cell is different from that of the second cell.

A rib structure for a display device includes a light-transmissive rib structure containing therein a material absorbent of visible light so that a visible light absorption distance is 40 to 1200 &#x3bc;m (the visible light absorption distance L (&#x3bc;m) means a distance such that visible light decreases to exp(&#x2212;T/L) times less in connection to the travel distance T (&#x3bc;m), that is, visible light is absorbed by 1-exp(&#x2212;T/L)).

A gas discharge display device is provided in which an influence of light emission of a discharge gas is reduced so that color reproducibility is improved. The gas discharge display device reproduces a color of each pixel of a color image by controlling light emission quantities of three kinds of cells having different light emission colors. The mixed color of the light emission colors of the three kinds of cells when reproducing a white color is set to a color defined by chromaticity coordinates in which a deviation from a blackbody locus is generated in a chromaticity diagram. A filter is disposed at the front side of the three kinds of cells. The filter has spectral characteristics of converting the mixed color to a color having a higher color temperature and defined by chromaticity coordinates point that is close to the blackbody locus.

Undue power consumption is reduced in the capacitance between data electrodes during addressing in a display panel. The power consumption associated with the capacitance is reduced to half as compared with the conventional panel, because the current associated with the discharge of the capacitance is independent of the power supply in the case of a combination of 'L reset', where the capacitance between data electrodes is discharged through a backward current path on the current sink terminal side, and 'H reset', where the capacitance between data electrodes is discharged through a backward current path on the current supply terminal side.
