A resin composition which comprises a coupling agent in an amount of about 0.5 part by weight to about 50 parts by weight against 100 parts by weight of a copolymer composed of an aminoalkyl acrylate and/or aminoalkyl methacrylate and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The resin composition excels, as compared with the conventional ones, in terms of any properties to be developed toward a wide range of various substrates inclusive of inorganic materials and plastic materials, such as adherence, water resistance, weathering resistance and yellowing resistance, and consequently are advantageously used in such fields as coatings, adhesives and printing ink.

Resin compositions and products using the same

A curable resin composition which comprises (1) a copolymer composed of an aminoalkyl acrylate and/or aminoalkyl methacrylate and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and (2) a blocked polyisocyanate compound formulated therein. The curable resin composition undergoes curing at by far lowered temperatures as compared with the conventionally employed baking paints consisting of hydroxyl-containing resins and blocked polyisocyanate compounds, and are therefore useful, for example, as a low-temperature baking type paint or adhesive. Heating brings about the crosslinking through the reaction between isocyanate and amino groups, thus providing coating films with excellent flexibility, chemical resistance, water resistance, impact resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. The composition can be used to such substrates as metal, heat-resistant plastics and inorganic materials, and can be applied onto electrical appliances for household uses, automobiles, building materials and the like.

Curable resin compositions and their use

A curable resin composition which comprises (1) a copolymer composed of an aminoalkyl acrylate and/or aminoalkyl methacrylate and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer being formulated with (2) a compound having at least two acryloyl groups in the molecule. The composition can be cured at low temperatures in the range of ordinary temperature to 120.degree. C., and therefore advantageously used for the formation of coating films in the application fields, such as plastics, wood and concrete, where heat treatment cannot be performed. Also, the composition which exhibits excellent adherence toward various kinds of substrates can be used as adhesives and different kinds of primers, as well. Furthermore, the composition can provide coating films that excel in terms of water resistance, weathering resistance and solvent resistance, and therefore be utilized for overpaints, etc.

Curable resin compositions

A thermosetting adhesive composition is disclosed which contains (a) a half-ester product of a saponified ethylene/vinyl ester copolymer with a dicarboxylic acid and (b) a solid or liquid epoxy resin, and this composition may further optionally contain a compound bearing two or more carboxyl groups, which is useful as a structural adhesive. The composition has a good storage stability and a good solubility to solvents, and can be cured at relatively low temperature in a shortened time. After curing, the composition shows good heat-resistance and has good adhesive properties.

Thermosetting adhesive compositions and use

A hot-melt adhesive composition containing (i) a first component consisting of (a) 20 to 100 weight percent of a hydrolyzed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer whose vinyl acetate unit content is in the range of 5 to 50 weight percent and its hydrolysis degree is at least 50 percent and/or a carboxyl-containing product obtained by grafting said copolymer with a carboxyl-containing unsaturated compound or anhydride thereof and (b) 0 to 80 weight percent of a resin compatible with said copolymer and/or said carboxyl-containing product and (ii) a second component which is a tackifying resin, the proportion of said first component being not less than 20 weight percent and that of said second component being not less than 20 weight percent, both based on said two components, and said composition optionally may further contain (iii) a wax as a third component is highly improved in adhesivity as compared with the hitherto known hot-melt adhesive compositions.

Hot-melt adhesive composition

A composition for powder coating which comprises a carboxyl-containing polymer of not lower than 40.degree. C. in softening point prepared by reacting a dicarboxylic acid anhydride with a hydroxyl-containing polymer obtained by saponifying a copolymer from a vinyl ester of a saturated monocarboxylic acid and a copolymerizable vinyl monomer, and a compound having two or more oxazaline rings in the molecule, from which are obtained coating layers with toughness and flexibility useful for coating glass bottles, etc.

Composition for powder coating

A spherical powder of a hydrolyzed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or its carboxyl modified product, is prepared by a method which comprises mixing 100 parts by weight of (1) a hydrolyzed product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having 5 to 50% by weight of vinyl acetate group content or (2) a carboxyl modified product of the aforementioned hydrolyzed product obtained by reacting said hydrolyzed product with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or cyclic acid anhydride, with 10 to 100 parts by weight of an organic solvent capable of dissolving said hydrolyzed product or its carboxyl modified product, the solvent being not freely miscible with water and having a boiling point of not lower than 80.degree. C., 300 to 1000 parts by weight of water and 0.1 to 10 parts by weight of an alkylphenol ethylene oxide adduct having an HLB value of 10 to 20, emulsifying said mixture while it is maintained at a temperature of not lower than the softening point of said hydrolyzed product or carboxyl modified product, and decreasing the temperature of the system under stirring down to not higher than said softening point. The resultant powder is virtually spherical in its particle form, the particles are of almost equal size, and their particle size distribution is such that not less than 70% fall between 70 and 300.mu.. Such spherical powder, when used in electrostatic coating, can provide beautiful coating films.

Production of sphere-formed powdery copolymers

A powdered composition comprising (1) an organic polyisocyanate blocked with ethyleneimine and (2) a partially hydrolyzed product of an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer and/or a carboxyl-modified-product of said partially hydrolyzed product exhibits exceedingly good levelling and post-curing characteristics and is advantageously flame-sprayed to give a coating film having good weatherability, heat resistance and chemical resistance.
