An apparatus is provided for forming a base sheet with a plurality of original films precisely stripped, i.e., affixed on it in a predetermined layout for use in a photomechanical process for printing a book. The apparatus includes a unit for receiving and storing information relating to a plurality of original films outputting position data of each of the plurality of original films to be affixed to the base sheet; a unit for forming register holes on each of the original films based on the position data; a unit for placing each of the original films in a predetermined position on the base sheets based on the register holes and the position data, and a unit for fixing each of the original films in its respective predetermined position on the base sheet. In another aspect of the invention there is provided a method for forming an intermediate original sheet using the above described apparatus and including the steps of operating each of the above mentioned units of such apparatus.

In a printing apparatus, a supply pallet storing an original and a photosensitive film is located above a printer. The films are carried onto a transparent plate of the printer in this order by a carrier. Then, light from a light source of the printer is directed toward the transparent plate, whereby an image provided on the original film is printed onto the photosensitive film. Thus, the printing apparatus is small in plane size.

A masking device employed for a composer and the like for forming a desired opening portion by covering a glass plate holding an original includes a pair of light intercepting devices for covering the glass plate from the front and rear and left and right directions. One end of each of the light intercepting devices includes a holding portion for holding an end portion of masking sheet for covering the glass plate and a member for defining an opening portion on the glass plate. The holding member and the opening portion defining member in the front and rear directions are provided spaced part from each other in the up and down directions, and the light intercepting device in the left and right directions are posed in an opening portion formed between the holding member and the opening portion defining member of the light intercepting device in the front and rear directions to define the opening portion in left and right directions.

A vacuum contact type printing device, for carrying out printing with an original film and a photosensitive material maintained in contact with each other, includes a flexible sheet on which the photosensitive material is placed, a sheet holding portion provided below the sheet, an original holding portion for holding an original facing the sheet, and a sealable exposure chamber containing the sheet, the sheet holding portion and the original holding portion. Switching valves for switching the pressure of the central portion and of the peripheral portions of the sheet holding portion between a reduced pressure and the atmospheric pressure are provided at the central and peripheral portions. A vacuum pump is connected to the exposure chamber to reduce the pressure of the exposure chamber, and a pressure sensor for detecting the pressure in the exposure chamber is provided. The pressure between the sheet and the sheet holding portion is switched by the switching valves successively from the central portion outwardly to peripheral portions and from the reduced pressure to the atmospheric pressure in response to the output from the pressure sensor.

An apparatus for composing original films, having register marks on desired positions of a base sheet, by positioning and adhering the original films on the base sheet, the apparatus includes a main frame, a positioning and composing table for supporting the base sheets, film cassettes, a position detecting stage on which one of the original films is placed, an original film carrier for transporting the original film from the film cassette to the stage, a working head which transports the original film from the positioning and composing table to a position where an adhesive is applied so that the original film can be adhered to the base sheet, photoelectrical sensors for detecting the register marks of the original film and measuring the position of the film, a sliding frame movable on the main frame in one direction, and a saddle slidable in a cross direction with the sliding frame to support the original film carrier and the working head.

A device for supplying/discharging PS plates in an inclined-type step and repeat machine having a rearwardly inclined exposing table which includes a supplying holder disposed on a side of the exposing table for supplying the PS plate thereto, the holder having a surface thereof rearwardly inclined at the same angle with respect to the horizontal as that of a surface of the exposing table, a pair of endless chains respectivley disposed along both side edges of the holder and adapted to move up and down longitudinally of the holder in synchronism with each other, metal support supported by the chains at both ends thereof, support bars also supported by the chains at respective both ends thereof via metal pieces the chains being driven to move up while carrying the PS plate which is being held by the metal support and support bars, and a guide provided on the top of the supplying holder and bent backwardly for guiding upward the plate being discharged.

A positioning pin device comprises a bush having at least 3 radially bored holes with, a positioning pin extending axially within the bush. The pin is movable in its axial direction and a spring urges the positioning pin toward the upper side of the bush. At least 3 balls are respectively disposed inside the radial holes of the bush. Screws fitted in the bush respectively abut the balls at their tips to provide positioning adjustment.

A contact printer includes a printing table for mounting of photosensitive material thereon, a framework for supporting a light-transmitting plate, a packing, a conveyor belt for movement of an original in X and Y-directions, and an air-blowing nozzle and drive means for open and close operation of the framework. A positioning device is disclosed, designed for use in the color separation plate making industry, whereby several sets of original films may be mounted on base sheets, each member of a set being mounted on a different base sheet in the same position relative to the members of the other sets. The invention employs a rotating frame which has several faces on which base sheets are mounted, and incorporates a positioning device adapted to locate original films accurately at corresponding positions on the different faces. Thus the invention achieves its desired result accurately, conveniently, and cheaply.
