The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for accurately predicting a cancer patient prognosis based on a count of desired cells for which expression of a leukocyte marker and an epithelial marker is hardly exhibited by detecting those cells. Provided is a method for diagnosing an overall survival prognosis for a patient suffering from cancer, the method including: a step of obtaining a concentrated solution containing desired cells by pre-treating a biological sample obtained from the patient; a step of optically detecting the concentrated cells; and a step of detecting the desired cells from the detected image, wherein an association is made with the overall survival prognosis diagnosis by counting the detected desired cells, and wherein the desired cells are cells confirmed by the existence of a cell nucleus and in which expression of a leukocyte marker and an epithelial marker is hardly exhibited.

Method of predicting patient prognosis using rare cells

The object of the present invention is to provide an evaluation method capable of accurately determining a metastasis of cancer, the stage of cancer progression, or the malignancy of cancer. The object can be solved by a method for detecting the degree of malignancy of each of the circulating tumor cells, characterized by the following steps: (a) bringing an epithelial cell-binding component, which specifically binds to a marker molecule expressed on epithelial cells and is fluorescently-labeled or luminescent enzyme-labeled, and a mesenchymal cell-binding component, which specifically binds to a marker molecule expressed on mesenchymal cells and is fluorescently-labeled or luminescent enzyme-labeled, into contact with a sample that possibly contains circulating tumor cells, (b) detecting a fluorescence signal or a luminescence signal of the epithelial cell-binding component and a fluorescence signal or a luminescence signal of the mesenchymal cell-binding component of each of the cells, and (c) determining the degree of epithelial-mesenchymal transition of circulating tumor cells based on the signal amount of the epithelial cell-binding component (E) and the signal amount of the mesenchymal cell-binding component (M).

Since a conventional adaptive equalizer handles an update quantity control parameter &mgr; as a fixed value, the update quantity control parameter &mgr; is not optimized adaptively to variation of a channel state and the BER characteristic is deteriorated. Thereupon, the invention controls a parameter &mgr; for controlling the update quantity of updating the impulse response of a channel by the adaptive algorithm operating portion according to an estimated BER value, by performing a BER estimating process by the BER estimating portion and performing an update quantity control parameter adjusting process by the update quantity control parameter adjusting portion , and increases the parameter &mgr; so that it follows variation of a channel state in an environment where the channel state is bad and severely varies and decreases the parameter &mgr; in a good environment where the channel state varies little, and thereby reduces deterioration in BER characteristic which could have been caused by a fact that the value of &mgr; is not optimized adaptively to variation of a channel state.

Adaptive equalizer

In outputting the decision results of decoding of a received signal by the maximum likelihood serial estimation using Viterbi algorithm, a channel estimation section estimates the channel state. The magnitude and delay quantity of delay wave contained in the received signal are determined, by a control section for the number of states, from the channel state estimated by the channel estimation section to determine the necessary number of states in Viterbi decoding, and decoding is controlled by the number of states. A viterbi decoder carries out the decoding according to the control based on the number of states determined by the control section for the number of states. By virtue of this constitution, when the transmission quality of the channel is good, the quantity of computation in the Viterbi decoder is reduced to reduce the power consumption and, at the same time, the quantity of the computation is minimized to realize high speed processing.

In a maximum-likelihood decoder, a reliability information of decoded data corresponding to a maximum-likelihood path is generated by using state codes previously assigned to the trellis states, respectively. After a survivor path is selected for each of the trellis states according to Viterbi algorithm, the survivor path is stored, and then a maximum-likelihood path is selected from the survivor paths stored. Based on at least two state codes each corresponding to a different trellis state, a reliability value is generated as the reliability information. Since the assigned state codes are used to generate the reliability information, the reliability criterion of decoded data is kept substantially at constant even when the conditions of input signals are changed, resulting in improved reliability of decoded data.

The cellular telephone includes a connection section and a selection section. When an incoming call is received while the wire telephone line is connected to the cellular telephone, the connection section generates an outgoing call to a different terminal having a different telephone number, by using a radio channel or the wire line which is available, to establish a speech communication, and connecting the incoming call to the different terminal. The selection section selects whether to enable or disable the connection section. The call terminated to the cellular telephone can be connected to another designated terminal.
