This camera includes two kinds of photographing modes, a normal photographing mode and a trimming photographing mode of telephotographing in pseudo. The focal length variator for changing the focal length of a zoom lens is formed by a first cam corresponding to the normal photographing, a second cam corresponding to trimming photographing, and a transition area cam connecting the first cam and the second cam. Thus, at the time of transition from the normal photographing mode to the trimming photographing mode, or the transition from the trimming photographing mode to the normal photographing mode, the focal length of the zoom lens is changed to the focal length corresponding to the photographing mode by zooming operation to facilitate change of the photographing mode and always set a view finder to a suitable angle of view corresponding to the focal length set in the zoom lens.

Camera for producing a trimmed image

A camera capable of switching two kinds of photographing modes, the normal photographing mode and the trimming-photographing mode capable of telephotographing in pseudo, and switching the photographing mode in an arbitrary position. A viewfinder cam for changing the focal length of a viewfinder optical system to confirm the range of an image plane to be printed through the viewfinder includes two cam faces corresponding to the photographing modes. When the cam face to be used is selected according to the photographing mode, a pin for changing the focal length of the viewfinder optical system interlocking with the zooming operation of the photographing lens is moved along the selected cam face, whereby the focal length of the viewfinder optical system is changed so that the angle of view of the viewfinder coincides with the angle of view of a photograph to be printed.

Camera

A single-lens reflex camera comprises a taking lens having a zooming optical system, a finder whose angle of view is determined according to a focal length of the taking lens, and an operation member which is manually operated. In the single-lens reflex camera, the focal length of the taking lens is changed by driving the zooming optical system, and the zooming operation is controlled in response to an operation of the operation member so that the focal length of the taking lens is changed in the wide-angle direction by a predetermined amount. An angle of view corresponding to that which is seen before the focal length is changed is displayed within the finder.

A camera is equipped with a finder having a field-of-view frame switching mechanism that is provided with, in addition to a stationary frame plate disposed in an optical path, two rotatable frame plates each of which moves in the optical pass to overlap with the stationary frame plate, to define three fields of different sizes. The stationary frame plate has a window of a standard size, one of the rotatable frame plates has a window of a classic size and the other has a window of panoramic size. Each of the fields of view is defined by a single frame plate. When the rotatable frame members are at their retracted positions, they substantially overlap with each other and are pushed by a spring in a direction to move in the optical path. Their movement is controlled by a cam member, which is moved in accordance with a user's operation to switch the size of a picture taken by the camera.

Finder field-of-view frame switching mechanism

A photographic camera of the type including a piezo-electric actuating element driven by energy accumulated in a capacitor for actuating a shutter wherein the piezo-electric element operates in stability to assure accurate appropriate opening and closing operation of the shutter of the camera and the capacitor is charged up rapidly to allow subsequent photographing operation to be done in a minute. In the camera, a charged voltage of the capacitor is checked several times to determine if it is sufficient to assure proper operation of the piezoelectric element, and if a then required level is not reached, then the capacitor is charged to the required voltage. While the capacitor is being charged, charging of a capacitor for a flash is inhibited. For operation of the shutter, a negative voltage is first applied across the piezo-electric element to set the same to its fixed home position, and then a positive voltage is applied to move the shutter from the home position to a predetermined opening position, whereafter the negative voltage is applied again to return the shutter to its initial position rapidly. The position of the shutter is also checked to assure proper operation of the camera.
