Porous zirconia particles exhibit high specificity to a protein to be immobilized thereto and are used in immobilization of the protein. The porous zirconia particles have a pore diameter D50, at which a ratio of a cumulative pore volume to a total pore volume is 50%, the pore diameter D50 being in a range of 3.20 nm or more and 6.50 nm or less; and a pore diameter D90, at which a ratio of a cumulative pore volume to a total pore volume is 90%, the pore diameter D90 being in a range of 10.50 nm or more and 100.00 nm or less. The total pore volume of the particles is greater than 0.10 cm/g. D50, D90, and the total pore volume are determined based on a pore diameter distribution measured through a BET method.

Porous zirconia particles, and aggregate for immobilizing protein

Provided are core-shell particles which are kept stable in a solvent such as water for a long period. Each core-shell particle includes a core which contains a hydrophobic polymer having an anionic group and a shell which contains calcium phosphate. At least one of calcium atoms contained in calcium phosphate is chemically bonded to a functional group derived from the anionic group. In a method of manufacturing core-shell particles each core-shell particle includes a core which contains a hydrophobic polymer and a shell which contains calcium phosphate, the method includes the steps of: mixing a water-soluble organic solution which contains a hydrophobic polymer having an anionic group with a solution which contains calcium ion so as to obtain a first mixed solution; mixing the first mixed solution with a solution which contains phosphate ions so as to obtain a second mixed solution; and stirring the second mixed solution.

Core-shell particles and method of manufacturing the same

This invention provides mesostructured oxide ceramics and a synthesizing method thereof, the synthesizing method employs a water-based solvent containing a metallic salt or metal complex as the ceramics precursor, template formed from an organic compound or the association thereof, and a precipitant, wherein mesostructured oxide ceramics are obtained from self-assembled oxide ceramics and organic substance by directly extracting oxide ceramics at a low temperature of 200&#xb0; C. or less by utilizing a homogenous precipitation reaction from said ceramics precursor under the coexistence of a nanometer-sized template in the solvent, and separating and collecting the obtained precipitation, and mesostructured oxide ceramics is prepared by employing the synthesizing method described above.

The present invention provides a method for producing a calcium phosphate coating film on the surface of a substrate, even a substrate which has poor heat resistance. The method comprises the steps of soaking a substrate in a first solution containing phosphate ions, inter alia, aqueous solutions of a basic phosphate salt such as Na.sub.3 PO.sub.4 or Na.sub.2 HPO.sub.4 ; removing the substrate and drying it; and soaking the substrate in a second solution (aqueous solution) containing calcium ions, to thereby obtain a coating film comprising hydroxyapatite or a mixture containing hydroxyapatite and a hydroxyapatite precursor. The substrate removed from the second solution may be soaked in a third solution (aqueous solution) containing an apatite component at a substantially saturated or supersaturated concentration, to thereby form a hydroxyapatite coating film. There may be used substrates formed of metals, ceramics, organic polymer materials, etc. The method is applicable to a substrate having poor heat resistance, such as synthetic resin fabric, due to omission of high-temperature treatment.

Method for producing calcium phosphate coating film

A method for the production of a composite consisting of cellulose fibers coated with a calcium phosphate compound consists essentially of phosphorylating the surface of cellulose fibers, immersing the surface-phosphorylated cellulose fibers in an aqueous solution containing calcium ions and hydroxyl ions, removing the cellulose fibers from the aqueous solution and subsequently immersing them in an aqueous solution containing calcium ions and phosphoric acid ions, and then removing the cellulose fibers from the aqueous solution. Also disclosed is a composite produced by the method.

A platelike hydroxyapatite is produced by preparing from a phosphate and a calcium salt an aqueous slurry of amorphous calcium phosphate having an atomic ratio of calcium atoms to phosphorus atoms in the range of 1.3:1 to 2.0:1, adding to the aqueous slurry not less than 10% by weight of alcohol based on the amount of the aqueous slurry, and subjecting the resultant mixture to a hydrothermal treatment.
