Nano- and micro-particles (NMP) can be formed from an oil/water emulsion. The emulsion is made by mixing a liquid solvent, at least one surfactant, a particle-forming compound, and at least curing agent. If desired, pH control agents and viscosity enhancers can be added to the liquid solvent. The particle-forming compound and the curing agents are mixed together and form the oil phase in the emulsion and after curing, the particles are formed. The nano- and micro-particles can be used as proppant to enhance the conductivity of nano- and microfractures and fluid-loss-control additive for hydraulic fracturing operations.

A polyacrylamide friction reducer wherein the friction reducer contains surfactant functional groups, and wherein the polyacrylamide friction reducer is degradable, can be used for multi-functional, slickwater fracturing fluid projects. Under downhole conditions, the polymer degrades and releases the surfactant molecules to act as oil displacing agent to provide additional stimulation.

This disclosure describes the composition and methods of use for a novel delayed polymer gelation system. This polymer gelation system includes a polymer of acrylamide, AMPS and 100-2,000 ppm polyethylene glycol diacrylate in inverse emulsion form, and a polyethyleneimine (PEI) with Mw of 5,000-100,000 Dalton as the crosslinking agent.

Some reservoirs have tight oil formations, such as the Changqing reservoir. The surfactant polymer flooding and low tension gas flooding are two potential chemical flooding methods for use in tight oil formations. In these methods, an oil displacement agent, or surfactant, is added. Nonionic surfactants with extended chains (by propylene oxide and ethylene oxide) from dialkyl alcohols or dialkyl amines were tested. A synergistic blend of surfactants was developed between the nonionic surfactants and anionic surfactants that lowers interfacial tension and improves surfactant solubility in water and oil.

The disclosed hydraulic fracturing fluid can include a liquid solvent, one or more surfactants, a proppant-forming compound, and one or more curing agents. When injected into a wellbore, the hydraulic fracturing fluid reacts to form proppant pillars in-situ under downhole conditions. The proppant pillars are capable of maintaining conductive fractures.

The polymeric amides can be 1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-yl (E)-12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enoate, (9E,9'E)-N,N&#x2032;-(azanediylbis(ethane-2,1-diyl))bis(12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enamide, (E)-12-hydroxy-N,N-bis(2-((E)-12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enamido(ethyl)octadec-9-enamide, (Z)-4-(bis(2-((E)-12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enamido)ethy)amino)-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid, 1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-yl(Z)-4-(bis(2-((E)-12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enamido)ethy)amino)-4-oxobut-2-enoate, and N1,N1,N4,N4-tetrakis(2-((E)-12-hydroxyoctadec-9-enamido)ethyl)maleamide. The method of forming the emulsifying composition includes reacting a fatty oil with diethylenetriamine and then maleic acid, and adding oleyl alcohol. The high density emulsifying composition is stable at high temperatures of drilling operations at greater depths in the wellbore.

A shale inhibitor to improve the application of water-based drilling fluid in the shale formation rock is provided. An embodiment of the shale inhibitor is the reaction product of an amine, such as triethanolamine, and epichlorohydrin in water solution. Another embodiment of the shale inhibitor is the reaction product of triethanolamine, epichlorohydrin, and hypophosphorous acid. It is highly effective and has a better performance than most commercial products on preventing the disintegration and swelling of the shale formation.

A thinner that is a polycondensed fatty acid that is selected from the group consisting of 12-hydroxystearic acid, 12-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid, polyhydroxystearic acid, reaction products with stearic acid, octadecanoate, octadecanoic acid, and homopolymers of stearic acid is able to reduce the viscosity of oil-based drilling fluid, thus allowing for reuse of the oil-based drilling fluid.
