A method of producing a silicon film includes: forming a deposition composition comprising silicon dioxide dispersed in a molten salt; placing a metal substrate and a counter electrode in the composition; and passing a reducing current between the metal substrate and the counter electrode, wherein the reducing current causes reduction of silicon dioxide particles to form a silicon film on the metal substrate.

A nanostructured particulates formed from a redox active, luminescent phenyl substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon are provided herein. The nanostructured particulates may be used for determining the presence of an analyte of interest in a sample by detecting the emitted electromagnetic radiation generated by exposing a reagent mixture, which includes the nanostructured particulates and the sample, to electrochemical energy.

Luminescent nanostructured materials for use in electrogenerated chemiluminescence

The present invention includes methods, compositions and kits for analyzing a chemical analyte having an electrochemical cell connected to a measuring apparatus. The electrochemical cell contains a solution having one or more nanoparticles, one or more chemical analytes, an indicator. In addition, the electrochemical cell contains one or more electrodes in communication with the solution. One or more electrocatalytic properties are generated by the interaction of the one or more nanoparticles and the liquid sample and measured at the one or more electrodes.

Method for metal nanoparticle electrocatalytic amplification

Methods and devices for signal amplification and/or analyzing a chemical analyte using an electrochemical cell containing colloidal suspension of conductive or redox active nanoparticles in a liquid sample are provided. The liquid sample includes a plurality of electrogenerated chemiluminescent (ECL) moieties and one or more chemical analytes. The colloidal suspension of nanoparticles in the liquid sample are in contact with one or more electrodes of the electrochemical cell. The methods and devices may also employ an optical detection system, which is capable of measuring one or more transient optical properties resulting from redox reactions of the ECL moieties catalyzed by interaction of the nanoparticles with one of the electrodes.

Method for nanoparticle electrogenerated chemiluminescence amplification

A nanostructured particulate material, which includes a redox active luminescent organic and/or ionic compound, is provided herein. The nanostructured particulate material may be used for determining the presence of an analyte of interest in a sample by detecting the emitted electromagnetic radiation generated by exposing a reagent mixture, which includes the nanostructured material and the target analyte, to chemical or electrochemical energy.

The present invention includes methods and compositions having at least one nanoparticle for analyzing a chemical analyte. The device includes an electrochemical cell connected to a measuring apparatus, wherein the electrochemical cell comprises a container and at least one electrode comprising a surface modification; a solution within the container comprising one or more chemical analytes and one or more metal nanoparticles in the solution, wherein one or more electrocatalytic properties are generated by the one or more metal nanoparticles at the at least one electrode and the contact of individual nanoparticles can be measured.

The electrochemical cell contains a solution having one or more conductive or redox active NPs (nanoparticles), one or more chemical analytes, and an indicator. In addition, the electrochemical cell contains one or more electrodes in communication with the solution. One or more catalytic ECL properties are generated by the interaction of the one or more conductive or redox active NPs and the liquid sample and measured at the one or more electrodes or with an optical detection system.

Method and apparatus for nanoparticle electrogenerated chemiluminescence amplification

A method for locating a chemical substance on the surface of a material and for determining the contour of a surface of a material using a scanning electrochemical microscope is provided in the present invention. The substance to be examined is immersed in a solution, the tip of a working electrode is positioned in the solution proximate the surface and an electric potential is connected directly or indirectly between the tip and the material generating a current through the tip and producing an electrochemical reaction. The current through the tip is measured at a plurality of points while the tip is scanned across the surface. The current at each point in the scan is preferably plotted to produce an image of the contour or of the differing chemical compositions on the surface of the substance being examined. The solution in which the substance and working electrode tip are immersed is chosen to enable electrochemically generated reduction and oxidation processes to occur between the surface and the tip. The changing contour or change of chemical substances over which the working electrode is scanned produces related differences in current through the tip. Light emission by electrogenerated chemiluminescence or inverse photoemission spectroscopy may also be produced and measured in the method of the present invention.

Scanning electrochemical microscopy

A photoelectrochromic display device having a semiconductor electrode, and a counterelectrode made of a selected metallic material is presented. The electrode and counterelectrode are immersed in an aqueous solution containing heptyl viologen. The device is usable as a display device, as a storage battery, and as an alternating current photoelectric generator. As a display device, the cell requires only two leads rather than multiple leads and complicated electrical addressing and decoding required for most multi-character displays.
