Sorption container for solid sorption medium

Sorption cooling system of the present invention comprises a transportable cooling unit and a stationary charging (i.e. desorption) station. The transportable cooling unit includes an adsorption container containing an adsorption medium, a cooling container containing a liquid operating medium, and a heat exchanger contained within the cooling container and being surrounded by the liquid operating medium. An operating medium vapor conduit connects the adsorption container and the cooling container, and includes a shut off device which renders the operating medium vapor conduit selectively closable. The stationary charging station is detachable from the cooling unit, and includes a temperature controlled heating box having an opening for receiving the adsorption medium container of the transportable cooling unit, so that a discharged adsorption medium container can be selectively heated to desorb the operating fluid therefrom to form vapor which is condensed to liquid form and stored in the cooling container. After desorbing the operating medium from the adsorption medium using the charging station, the shut off device is closed and the cooling unit is removed from the charging station and allowed to cool, thereby charging the cooling unit for a new use.

An adsorption cooler operating in accordance with the periodical adsorption principle and consisting of at least one adsorption container filled with zeolite. At least one condenser with a collecting container for the water which desorbs from the zeolite and an insulated cooling container which may be closed by a shut-off member are serially connected with the adsorption container. In the cooling container, the adsorption cooler generates ice in stages which acts as a cold buffer. The system is usable for example in solar cooling systems, vehicle air conditioning units and air conditioning insulation as well as beverage coolers.

The invention describes portable cooling and heating devices and their process of operation in accordance with the adsorption principle utilizing the adsorption substance pair of zeolite-water. The devices operate without substance and heat exchange from the environment, in that the evaporation heat originates from the solidifying heat of a non-evaporating amount of water and that the released adsorption heat is stored in the form of tangible heat of the zeolite filler. The ice which had been generated during the adsorption process is suitable for human consumption.

Blanks are provided from zeolite (1) which adsorb and desorb adsorbed substances and are provided with metal textures (3). The stability and the low heat conductivity of the blanks are increased by the metal textures (3). The metal texture is permanently connected with heat exchanger surfaces in a manner to provide good heat conductivity by means of known connecting techniques. The blanks contain separate flow conduits (4) for the adsorbed substances. The binder components in the zeolite filling are lesser in the inside of the blanks than in the outer areas.

A plurality of adsorption containers are provided which are separated into heater adsorber zones and condenser evaporator zones. The zones are successfully rotated through flow segments which form a passageway for heat carrier flows. The heater adsorption zones contain an adsorption substance from which an operating substance is extracted by adsorbing heat from a heat carrier flow and is again adsorbed by emitting heat to a further heat carrier flow. The operating substance condenses and evaporates by means of a heat exchange with further heat exchangers. The adsorption devices are suitable as cooling devices and heat pumps as well as heat transformers and heat exchangers.
