An oscillatory support for drum washing machines having a horizontal axis of rotation comprises a washer unit (1) supported on a base plate (4) via at least two spring struts (2) disposed at either side of the vertical plane passing through the axis of rotation. The spring struts (2) are elastically articulated at one end on the base plate (4) and on the other end are articulated with their respective tappets (13) on the washer unit (1). In order to provide support means which are simple in design and easily mounted and which have good oscillatory and damping properties, the spring struts (2) are articulated at both ends by means of a plug connection to the base plate (4) and the washer unit (1), respectively.

Oscillatory support for drum washing machines

A frictional damper, includes a circular-cylindrical casing and a ram which is coaxially displaceable in the casing and the inner end of which is provided with a cylindrical friction piston. On its external face, the friction piston is provided with one or more friction elements which are elastically pressed against the inner wall of the casing. To obtain a uniform surface pressure over the entire friction surface of the friction element or elements during the entire life of the frictional damper, the friction piston is provided with a bushing having a circular-cylindrical external shape and of counter-holder flanges or disks which project radially from the bushing and delimit the latter at a fixed axial extent. Moreover, at least one annular-cylindrical friction sleeve which has a closed circumference, is made of an elastically yielding material and is under tension in its inner circumferential zone, is provided on the bushing. The damper is particularly useful for damping washing machines which have a spinning mode.

Friction damper

A lockable tilting apparatus for the seats of chairs and which can be used selectively either for chairs which tilt backward or for chairs which tilt forward, comprising a base plate securable to chair seat and a stationary body member adapted to be supported by the pedestal of the chair, spring means supported by said stationary body member, means supported by said stationary body member mounting said base plate for tilting pivotal movement relative to said stationary body member, link means engaging and movable with said base plate against the restoring force of said spring means whereby said base plate is tiltably movable relative to said body member against the restoring force of said spring means; and wherein a locking apparatus which is actuatable by displacement of an operating lever between two terminal positions is provided for selectively locking the base plate against tilting movement or for releasing the base plate for tilting movement, characterized by a slide member mounted in said body member for sliding movement relative to said base plate, said slide member being selectively movable between said two terminal positions, said slide member having receptacle means for engagement by an operating lever whereby to effect movement of said slide member selectively between said two terminal positions, said receptacle means being accessible for engagement by said operating lever from either of two laterally opposite sides of said body member. This construction permits the tilting apparatus to be mounted on either chairs which tilt backward or on chairs which tilt forward.

Lockable tilting apparatus for chair seats

An angle joint, consisting of a ball socket and a ball pivot, is pivotally mounted, by means of the ball, in a ball socket recess which is shaped like a spherical cap and acts as a ball seat. On one side of the ball socket is a rigid locating or contact shoulder, which is integral with the ball socket and partially grips the rear of the ball when the ball has been inserted into the recess. A locking element, which is situated opposite the locating shoulder, also partially grips the rear of the ball when the ball is inserted into the recess. The locking element is slidably located in a guide recess in the ball socket at an acute angle, between 15.degree. to 30.degree., to the direction of insertion. A locking spring presses the locking element in a direction opposite to the direction of insertion. The locking element is loaded by a pretensioned helical spring, acting as a locking spring, which bears both against the locking element and a section in contact with the ball socket. The locking spring may either bear against a locating collar formed out of the ball socket or against a cap which seals the guide recess. A handle or knob, projecting out of the guide recess may be mounted on the locking element. The locking spring may be bow-shaped and attached to the ball socket at a distance spaced from the locking element. The locking element is preferably made of a strong metallic material and may be constructed integrally with the locking spring, which may be constructed in the form of a leaf spring.

Angle joint

A lengthwise adjustable gas spring consists of a housing containing gas under pressure, which is formed by an outer tube 2 and a coaxially disposed inner tube 3 with an annular channel 4 therebetween. A closed piston 5 sealed against the inner tube and axially movable within same, is connected to a piston rod 9, which extends through a seal formed by a plug 10 at one end of the housing. A valve 23 is disposed at the other end of the housing and is used for the regulated connection via the annular channel 4 of two partial housing chambers 20a and 20b disposed on either side of the piston within the inner area of the housing. A valve lifter 22 is embodied within the valve body and is sealed against the valve body and opens or closes gas transfer ports. The valve body 23 and the plug 10 are axially supported against the inner tube 3 and are sealed against the inner surface of the outer tube 2. In order to avoid use of separate seals, the valve body e.g. 23, 23' and/or the plug 10 fit without seals against the inner surface of the outer tube 2 and are radially sealed in relation to it by axial bracing, whereby the valve body 23, 23' and/or the plug 10, on the one hand, and the outer tube 2, and the other hand, consist of materials of differing hardness.

Lengthwise adjustable gas spring

An elastic support for a horizontally rotating washing machine or the like in which two spring support strut assemblies are disposed substantially in the middle of the machine and to either side of a vertical plane which includes the axis of rotation. Each of the spring strut assemblies is double-acting, i.e., it has an upper guide rod and a lower guide rod, each of which is surrounded by a compression spring. The top of the upper guide rod is attached to the washing machine housing and the bottom of the lower guide rod is attached to the base of the machine. The free ends of the guide rods move axially within a single guiding and damping casing which has internal passages for guiding the rods. The casing may consist of two or more parts and is so constructed that when the casing parts are clamped together with a variable force, the casing is deformed and a varying amount of radial pressure is applied by the walls of the passages to the surface of the guide rods, thereby causing a selectable amount of damping friction with respect to the axial motion of said guide rods.

Spring support strut for drum-type washing machine

A pneumatic spring for use, for example, as a lifting device or support strut for a chair or the like with provision for the adjustment of axial extent. The pneumatic spring is substantially composed of a telescoping cylinder-piston assembly containing a gas and/or fluid under compression. A releasable valve assembly permits the relative position of the piston with respect to the housing to be adjusted arbitrarily. In order to provide for a terminal spring stiffening in the position of near full insertion of the piston rod, the invention provides that a pin extending from the main piston enters a central volume which is thereby sealed off from the remainder of the internal volume. Accordingly, the gas in the remaining available volume is compressed more highly and exerts an increased opposing force on the primary piston during its final insertion.

Axially adjustable pneumatic spring

A securing device for releasably attaching the columns or legs of chairs, tables and the like. The securing device is fixedly mounted to the underside of the chair seat or table top and includes a receiver in which the column or leg is inserted. A gripper shoe can be advanced radially against the column to hold it in place. The radial displacement of the gripper shoe is caused by the force exerted by an eccentric stack of discs of different size which are assembled into an integral body that is rotated about an axis, thereby forcing the larger eccentric discs into camming engagement with mating extensions of the gripper shoe. Upon release of the eccentric, the column may be pushed out of its receiver by the upward motion of a handle which pivots about a ball joint resting on the eccentric body and exerts an axial downward force on the column to be removed.

Apparatus for securing chair or table columns to the underside of chair

A gas spring suitable as a lifting means for a car hatchback includes a device to hold the gas spring piston rod in its extended position with the hatchback fully open. Such holding device comprises a pair of check valves associated with the guide piston of the gas spring whereby one such check valve is spring-biased closed so that a substantial closing force is required to initiate closing of the hatchback.

A length-adjustable gas spring is provided with a by-pass valve comprising a piston sealing element and a depression in the inner tube of the gas spring so that when the piston sealing element is pushed to a position adjacent the depression, the valve is opened.

Length-adjustable gas spring

A gas spring, particularly adapted as a lifting means for hatch backs or trunk lids of motor vehicles, comprises a piston rod acting as a displacement piston, a housing cylinder containing a compressed gas, a guide piston near one end of the piston rod and in slidable relationship with the interior of the cylinder housing, characterized in that the piston rod is provided with an extension projecting beyond the guide piston, the closed end of the cylinder housing having a complementary receptacle for the piston rod extension, whereby when the piston rod is fully retracted into the cylinder housing, the extension enters the complementary space in the housing in a sealing manner, a valve being provided to permit the escape of fluid from the space as the extension passes thereinto, whereby the force acting to extend the piston rod is reduced to zero or nearly zero in the vicinity of the fully retracted position of the piston rod.

Gas spring

A lengthwise-adjustable, compressed-gas-filled gas spring, particularly for continuous height adjustment of chairs, seats, tables, or the like, has two cylinders, coaxially mounted one inside the other, and leaving an annular chamber therebetween. A piston and piston rod are displaceably provided within the inner cylinder, the piston sealingly dividing the cylinder into a first housing chamber, on the piston rod side, and a second housing chamber. The piston rod extends sealingly out of the cylinders. The first housing chamber has a fluid connection to the annular chamber at all times. The inner cylinder has a passageway therethrough near the end opposite the piston rod end, and is axially displaceable within the center cylinder between a first position at which the passageway is sealed off and a second position at which a fluid connection is allowed between the second housing chamber and the annular chamber.

Lengthwise-adjustable gas spring

An adjustment assembly has two coaxially mounted cylinders fitting into one another with a piston displaceably mounted within the inside cylinder and dividing the inside cylinder into two fluid filled housing chambers. The piston is connected to a piston rod which is guided out of one end of the cylinder in a sealed manner. A pressure medium chamber is provided in the annular space between the cylinders and is separated in a fluid tight manner from fluid filled parts of the annular space by two axially displaceable separating pistons. The lower housing chamber has a fluid passageway to the lower portion of the annular space and the upper housing chamber has a fluid passageway to the upper part of the annular space. The inner cylinder may be axially displaced from outside the assembly to seal or open the upper passageway thus locking or unlocking the piston.
