In one aspect, a device is adapted to transmitting power to, or receive power from, a remote device over first and second communication lines (DALI+, DALI−) and to communicate with the remote device over the first and second communication lines. A first driver implements a first communications protocol which comprises coupling the first and second communication lines together to encode a first signal level and isolating the first and second communication lines from each other to encode a second signal level. This may be a DALI protocol. A second driver implements a second communications protocol which comprises modulating the first communication line with a signal having a low modulation depth. The second communications protocol means there is always a voltage difference between the two communication lines to enable continuous power harvesting. A second aspect relates to efficient power transfer by disabling a current limiter function, when possible.

In this invention, methods, subsystem, systems, computer program are disclosed to achieve power reduction of a radar sensor by operating the radar sensor in a sub-sampling manner in an illumination control system. By combining the information related to the detection area and the state of a lighting device, the sampling frequency of a radar sensor is configured according the user scenario. A balance between power reduction and motion detection performance is achieved therefrom.

A tubular solid state lighting device has a pin safety circuit electrically connected to connection pins of the one end. The pin safety circuit comprises two protection components, of different types. In one set of examples, there is an electrically controlled isolation switch and an electronic switch which functions as a high voltage isolation barrier. The switch provides full galvanic contact separation, whereas the isolation barrier provides current protection if the isolation switch is not functional. In another set of examples, there is a mechanically controlled isolation switch and an electrical or electronic isolation barrier. This provides two levels of protection, but requiring only a single manual operation by the installer of the lighting device. It avoids end-of-life protection circuitry being triggered during the installation of the lighting device.
