A heating system for heating air, especially for heating the interior of a motor vehicle, with a first heater (), a second heater (), and a flow path between the first heater () and the second heater (), there being at least one auxiliary fan () with which a flow in the direction from the second heater () to the first heater () can be produced and a process for influencing the air flows in the heating system are designed to counteract overpressurization. Furthermore, an air heater and a process for detecting backflowing hot air through an air heater use a temperature sensor in an inlet area of the heater for that purpose.

Heating system and process for influencing air flows in a heating system

A heating system for heating air, especially for heating the interior of a motor vehicle, with a first heater ( ), a second heater ( ), and a flow path between the first heater ( ) and the second heater ( ), there being at least one auxiliary fan ( ) with which a flow in the direction from the second heater ( ) to the first heater ( ) can be produced and a process for influencing the air flows in the heating system are designed to counteract overpressurization. Furthermore, an air heater and a process for detecting backflowing hot air through an air heater use a temperature sensor in an inlet area of the heater for that purpose.

A water type heater, in particular a vehicle auxiliary heater having a temperature safety mechanism, intended to prevent overheating damage to temperature-sensitive parts of the heater, that utilizes a contact sensor that is in heat conducting connection with the heat exchanger. As a heat conducting connection, a direct physical contact between the heat exchanger and a water jacket casing of the heater can be utilized that is, preferably, achieved with the aid of a projection, and optionally, a diametrically opposite projection acting as countersupport. In a modified embodiment, an elastic body that conducts heat well can be placed in a compressed state between the jacket casing and the heat exchanger. The contact sensor then lies against the outer surface of the casing as the temperature safety mechanism. The elastic body that conducts heat well is suitably made in the form of a disk made of a graphite material. In other embodiments, the contact sensor can be spring-mounted or at least a head part thereof can be elastically deformable. In this way, the contact sensor can extend into direct engagement with the heat exchanger without being adversely affected by thermal expansion effects experienced by the heat exchanger and jacket casing during operation of the heater.

Heater, in particular vehicle auxiliary heater, with a temperature

A heater, in particular a vehicle auxiliary heater, of the type which operates with a liquid heat exchange medium and which is tied, for example, into the coolant circuit of a motor vehicle. In this heater, a mounting space for a control device is formed on a jacket-like outer casing, preferably a formation cast integrally as part of the outer casing. In this mounting space, circuit boards and printed circuit cards of the control device and sensor elements are mounted. Heat produced by semiconductor power components of the control device is removed to the surroundings by wall surfaces, in particular side walls, of the mounting space to which they are mounted. An electric connection device is provided that connects the inputs and outputs of the control device to the respective operational parts to be controlled and/or to the vehicle. This electric connection device includes a plug-like base, which preferably is formed of plastic, in which suitable electric conductor parts and contact parts, by which the control device is connected to operational parts to be controlled, are inserted. The control device and/or the electric connection device are designed so that parts projecting on the heater are avoided and a compact design of a heater is achieved.

A heating device, particularly an automotive heating device, in which a noise muffling device is integrated within the heating device. The muffler can be provided in the combustion pipe defining the combustion chamber, or the combustion pipe, itself, can be designed as the muffler. The muffler operates by absorption and/or reflection sound muffling techniques in accordance with various embodiments, and may, simultaneously, purify the combustion gases, for example, by catalytic afterburning, and/or by filtering of soot particles. The muffler is arranged in a hot zone, but not in the flame area of the combustion chamber, to achieve a self-cleaning action. In other embodiments, noise muffling material is arranged in an exhaust gas collection chamber to achieve sound muffling based on reflection and/or absorption and/or other conventional sound reduction methods. In all cases, the need for an external muffler in the exhaust line from the heating device is eliminated.

A vaporization burner for a heating device operated with liquid fuel, particularly a motor vehicle heating device, has a combustion pipe defining a combustion chamber, and an absorbent body arranged on a carrier, fuel being supplied to the absorbent body via said carrier. At least part of the carrier is not covered by the absorbent body, the uncovered area is provided with a through-opening. An ignition device is arranged behind the carrier and, preferably, extends into an ignition chamber, formed behind the carrier, by an ignition housing having a wall with an opening for supplying combustion air into the ignition chamber. Fuel, which has been vaporized by the absorbent body, reaches the ignition chamber via an opening in a portion of the carrier covered by the absorbent body and forms a combustible mixture. The mixture in the chamber is ignited by means of the ignition device, resulting in a pilot frame which extends through the through-opening in the uncovered area of the carrier. This pilot flame causes ignition of a fuel-air mixture created in the combustion chamber.

Vaporization burner

For a heater operated by means of liquid fuel, a vaporization burner is provided that has a large-volume active first vaporization part for the very volatile components of the fuel and a large-surface second vaporization part for the least volatile fuel components. The two vaporization parts are separated from one another by a fuel-impermeable material, such as ceramics, so that any occurring coke formations at the second passive vaporization part cannot migrate to the first vaporization part. As a result, the operating reliability and the service life of such a vaporization burner are improved.

An auxiliary heater device comprises a tubular combustion chamber surrounded by a heat exchanger 50 as to define a gap therebetween. The peripheral wall of the combustion chamber is provided with a plurality of circumferential projections that extend into the gap in a manner that reduces direct contact heat exchange between the combustion gases flowing through the gap and the peripheral wall by blocking axial flow of the gases along the wall in contact therewith and by deflecting these gases toward the heat exchanger pipe.
