To create an orthodontic device with a base having a base surface for fixing the device to a tooth, and a slot for receiving an archwire, which is defined by a bottom surface and two side surfaces arranged on either side of the bottom surface and aligned in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, and which extends in a substantially straight line through the base in the longitudinal direction of the base on a side thereof facing away from the base surface, and with a cover element for at least partially covering the open side of the slot facing the bottom surface, which is convertible and is easier to handle during the conversion, and which offers the wearer an increased degree of security, it is proposed that the side surfaces of the slot have a positively locking guide, which is aligned substantially parallel in relation to the longitudinal direction of the slot, and in which the cover element is slidably and detachably held on the base.

In order to so improve a metallic orthodontic aid having an optically visible marking area that the marking is easy to apply and is also visible up to a definable number of recycling process cycles, it is proposed that the marking area be a surface of an additionally produced layer with a remelt structure.

Shaped bodies of transparent, polycrystalline alumina are produced in a green body is formed in a first step using pure, fine-grained alumina wherein, in the given circumstances, the green body is freed from the auxiliary agents used int he production by burning-out in a second step, wherein pretreat is carried out as a subsequent third step, and wherein the compaction to transparent, polycrystalline alumina takes place in a fourth step, in order to render the method more economical, it is suggested that the pretreatment be carried out in such a way as to produce a closed surface on the shaped body and that pressure from all sides at elevated temperature be used to compact the shaped body in the fourth step.

Marked orthodontic aid and method of manufacturing

A method for the production of shaped bodies of transparent polycrystalline alumina having a yellowish color tone. A green body is formed using pure, fine-grained alumina. The auxiliary agents are burned out of the green body. The green body is treated in such a way as to produce a closed surface on the shaped body. The body is compacted to a transparent, polycrystalline alumina body. Finally, the body is annealed in air to impart a yellowish color tone to the body.
