A friction false twisting unit having three spindles and respective plurality of disks on each spindle. One spindle and its disks are on a swingable housing which swings out with respect to a stationary housing holding the other two spindles. A lower thread guide is beneath the lowest disk on the first spindle on the swingable housing. The lower thread guide eyelet opening opens toward the front spindle on the stationary housing. The lowest disk on that spindle is a thread guide disk, not a texturing disk. An upper stationary thread guide above the disks has an eyelet opening toward the rear of the housing and toward a respective lateral side of the housing depending upon whether an S twist or a Z twist is being applied to the thread, and the center of the eyelet opening of the upper thread guide is off the center of the triangle defined by the spindles.

Threading a friction false twisting unit

Calibration of a thread tensioning force meter on a texturing unit for a false twist machine was previously performed differently depending upon the direction of withdrawal, that is forwardly or rearwardly, of the thread from the texturing unit. The thread passes the tensioning force meter by passing over a spring biased support abutment connected with a meter. In the invention, the outlet past the tensioning force meter includes a withdrawal point and slightly upstream of that point a calibration point, which points are separated by a thread eye through which the thread passes. The location of the calibration point is selected with respect to the withdrawal point and with respect to the position of the abutment engaged by the thread that regardless of whether the thread is withdrawn forwardly or rearwardly of the meter, the thread continuously contacts the calibration point. In one direction of withdrawal, the thread only contacts the calibration point. In the opposite direction of withdrawal, the thread first contacts the calibration point and then contacts the thread guide outlet, which holds a thread passing through the thread eye against the calibration point.

A device for the false twisting of synthetic threads is provided with a plurality of friction rotors, each constructed of a reusable central bore and an expendable composite ring that is form-fitted and force-fitted to said base so as to be conveniently removable therefrom for replacement when the friction coating along the outer edge of the ring has worn.

Friction rotor for the false twisting of synthetic threads

The friction ring of a rotor or disk for a friction false-twisting device for synthetic threads is disposed on the circumference of the respective rotor. The friction ring is comprised of elastic material and is capable of lifting off the rotor upon high rotor rotation speed. To prevent lift-off, at least one annular element is disposed to the ring. In one embodiment, the annular element is rigid and is disposed in a groove around the periphery of the ring. In another embodiment, rigid annular elements are disposed in respective grooves in one or both side faces of the ring. In still another embodiment, the annular element is disposed inside the ring and may even comprise an initially tensioned spring, rather than a rigid annular element.

Friction rotor for the false-twisting of synthetic threads

Two complete friction false-twisting units are disposed within a very narrow space on only a single base plate. Only one pivot mount is provided for the base plate, whereby the drive whorls of each of the two units can be pivoted toward and away from the drive belt. The capacity of a thread texturing machine can be doubled thereby.

Device for the false twisting of threads by means of friction disks

A friction false-twisting unit has three upstanding parallel shafts supported on a base plate. Each shaft carries a plurality of friction disks and the disks are overlapping and interleaved for applying a false twist to filament yarn drawn through the array of disks where they overlap. To damp the oscillation of the entire false twisting unit, it is fastened to the machine bed through interposed damping elements. There is a holding mandrel on the base plate which passes through a guide sleeve. The guide sleeve is, in turn, attached to the mount via the damping elements. With the false-twisting unit absent, the damping elements tilt the guide sleeve and when the unit is in place, its weight in use returns the guide sleeve to a correct orientation, so that the plane of the side of the drive whorl on one of the shafts is parallel to the plane of the tangential drive belt for that shaft where that belt passes the drive whorl.

A friction rotor for false-twisting threads is provided with a coating of particles which are harder than the material from which the rotor has been made to provide a surface of harder particles which contact the thread as it passes over the rotor for false-twisting.

A false-twist apparatus has a support defining three generally parallel and radially spaced axes surrounding a central axially extending twisting region. Respective shafts are journaled in this support for rotation about the axes and carry respective staggered sets of axially spaced disks whose rims radially overlap at the twisting region. Yarn eyes above and below the sets of disks are axially aligned with this twisting region so that a yarn to be false-twisted can pass axially through the lower eye, then zigzag along the regions in contact with the disks, and then pass axially out through the other eye. All of the disks are permanently joined and synchronously rotated. A holder displaceable in a straight line on the apparatus support carries a plurality of arms having yarn-pushing tips that can push a yarn to be false-twisted radially into the region. The straight-line motion of the loading arms as well as their axial positions holds the yarn being loaded in out of contact with the outwardly traveling rims of one of the sets of disks while pressing it against the inwardly traveling rims of the adjacent set of disks.

An apparatus having three spindles carrying overlapping friction discs disposed with their longitudinal axis forming in plan view the corners of an equilateral triangle is provided with a centrally disposed fourth spindle carrying a means for simultaneously and equally adjusting the positions of all three spindles with respect to the track of the thread to be false twisted.

False twisting device

A rotatable member such as a spindle or rotor of a textile machine having longitudinally spaced anti-friction bearings is supported in a housing by elastic members such as rubber O-rings having a cross-section which provides for progressive dampening. The elastic member supporting the bearing which is subjected to the greatest load has a dampening effect of at least twice that of the other one. The increased dampening of the one elastic member over the other may be obtained by greater mass or softer material.

Support means for textile spindles and rotors having anti-friction

An apparatus for false twisting a thread has three spindles each carrying friction elements and disposed, in plan view, at the corners of an equilateral triangle. Both ends of each of the spindles are mounted in bearings on a frame. A removable spacer is provided at each end of the frame and a resilient means urges each spindle against the spacer. The apparatus has a simple construction which can be easily disassembled to replace a spindle, friction element or bearing.

False twisting devices

An apparatus for false twisting threads has three spindles arranged to rotate about substantially parallel axes and fixed at the corners of a triangle centered on the mean path of the thread with friction elements carried by the spindles overlapping each other and means for moving a thread from a position outside the friction elements into a position where the thread follows a zig-zag path between the friction elements and is twisted thereby through an intermediate position where the thread first engages only some of the friction elements and is then moved into position for full rotation.

A false twisting apparatus having three spindles supporting over-lapping friction discs and having a means for feeding a thread between the friction discs where it will be false twisted and into a balloon preventing member is provided with an improved means for threading the apparatus by moving a thread into position between the friction disc comprising a thread guide member on an arm supported by a rotatable shaft with the guide member above the friction disc, the rotatable shaft being rotatable from a position where the guide member is disposed above the gap between the edges of the friction disc to where the guide member is disposed outside the friction disc and a thread slide member supported on a shaft and projecting inwardly between longitudially spaced friction discs, the slide member having arcuate shaped edges over which the thread can slide as it is moved by the thread guide member into or out of the gap between the friction members.

An apparatus for false twisting a thread having three rotatably mounted spindles each carrying a pluralilty of friction discs which overlap each other and means for passing a thread along a zig-zag path between the spindles and over the edges of the friction discs is provided with at least one friction disc having a twist stop edge which interrupts the helical path of the thread in a kink-like manner at the exit end of the path of the thread.
