In a device for the stranding or stranding-on of stranding elements to form a cable, stranding members of a stranding machine and storage receivers of the machine are combined to form a unit, and are present in duplicate to be interchangeable with each other. The unit with the storage receiver which has just been filled forms the active part and the other unit with the storage receiver which is to be filled forms the passive part in a stranding operation.

Device for the stranding, or stranding-on, of stranding elements

In the case of strand-shaped material, for instance corrugated tubes, electric cables or lines, there is provided on the surface of the material an armoring comprising a plurality of wires which are applied with a long length of lay and are held by a further armoring layer. The wires are applied to the material with changing direction of lay. The additional armoring layer is at least one wire applied with a short length of lay and which is applied with initial tension onto the first armoring layer.

A viscous sealing material is applied to a communications cable by being forced out of a container by means of a heatable pressure plate having a bore and a pump adjacent to the bore; the sealing material is conveyed by the pump through a conduit to a chamber, in which the sealing material is introduced under pressure into and around an already stranded cable core; the pressure plate includes a plurality of preferably helically coil electrical heating elements separated from each other and projecting therefrom for penetrating into the sealing material in the container when the pressure plate applies pressure to the sealing material so that it is progressively liquified and can be pumped out of the container.

A polyphase winding of ladder-like configuration for a linear motor is installed into a prearranged inductor assembly having a plurality of parallely arranged grooves, the inductor being attached to the underside of a T-shaped type carrier; a vehicle runs on that carrier carrying a drum for storing the winding (cable assembly), and there is a deflection system which runs the winding from the drum towards the underside of the carrier in near-tangential disposition whereby a tool resiliently mounted on an outrigger causes rungs of the ladder to be sequentially forced into the grooves of the inductor and, possibly, locked therein.

A stranding device is proposed in which the stranding elements are taken from carrierless coils, the coils being held in containers which are mounted on a single, rotatable carrier and at an orientation so that the axes of the coils in the containers form acute angles to the axis of rotation of the carrier being the axis of stranding, the angles being between 5 degrees and 30 degrees, preferably 15 degrees.

For the manufacture of heat exchanger tubes having a metal strip (tangential surface) welded to the surface of the tube, the metal strip is fastened to the surface of the tube by through-welding with welding current of alternating value.

Three stranded-together, insulated conductors are enveloped in a rubber-elastic, inner sleeve on which sits a corrugated twin tube arrangement of an inner copper tube and an outer steel tube. The corrugations seal the interior in a bulkhead-like fashion.

In accordance with the teachings of the instant invention, methods and apparatus are set forth for the manufacture of discrete lengths of heat exchanger tubing comprised of a thin walled metallic tubular member having a plurality of spaced apart transverse grooves impressed into its outer surface, and expanded end portions whose inner cross sections form symmetrical polygons. Such tubing is manufactured in accordance with the instant invention by the steps of deforming a metal band in a longitudinal direction into a tubular member, continuously seam welding the longitudinal edges of the tubular member, continuously impressing spaced apart grooves into the outer surface of the welded tubular member, transversely cutting the tubular member along smooth portions of the tubular member between selected adjacent transverse grooves to form discrete tube lengths, and expanding the inner cross sections of the end portions of each of such lengths to form symmetrical polygons.

Spacer for concentrically disposed tube systems where a temperature drop exists between adjacent tubes. This may consist, for example, of a superconducting electric cable or alternatively of a tube system for carrying heated liquid or gaseous media. The concentric tubes are spaced by a winder which touches the surfaces of adjacent tubes at particular points and which consists of two ribbons of insulating material disposed adjacent to each other having two elements in-between, and one of them being wound about the other so that they touch adjacent ribbon surfaces only in isolated points.

A super conductor is made by first shaping a copper strip carrying a niobium layer into a corrugated tube; thereafter tin is deposited on the tube which is coiled, hung from a ceramic rod and placed into an annealing furnace being evacuated thereafter, the interior of the tube is sealed off from the interior of the furnace. After, e.g. two hours of heating for causing the tin to diffuse into the niobium, a sufficiently thick layer of Nb.sub.3 Sn has developed and a cold inert gas is flushed through the tube to rapidly cool the tube while retaining it in the evacuated but no longer heated furnace.

Making a super conductor

Spacer for concentrically disposed tube systems where a temperature drop exists between adjacent tubes. This may consist, for example, of a superconducting electric cable or alternatively of a tube system for carrying heated liquid or gaseous media. The concentric tubes are spaced by a winder which touches the surfaces of adjacent tubes at particular points and which consists of ribbons of insulating material disposed adjacent to each other. The individual ribbons are so formed and so arranged that they touch adjacent tube surfaces either at only individual points or at lines.

The longitudinal welding seam of a tube is subjected to flexing to obtain strengthening by up and down bending followed by one or multiple stage rolling which in turn is followed by sizing.

In a gas insulated high voltage cable having an outer tubular, corrugated conductor and an inner centrally disposed conductor, a spacer construction for holding and spacing the inner conductor in the tubular outer conductor, wherein each spacer has at least two spacer elements of semi annular construction each and complementing each other for establishing a closed annulus, each element constructed for laterial slipping onto the inner conductor, and the two spacer elements are secured to each other to establish the closed annulus in positive disposition on the inner conductor. Additional features impede local voltage breakdown, positive interlock of parts and resilient load relief.
