Workpiece rests are disclosed for holding workpieces in machining systems which machine the workpieces using a cutting beam, e.g., a laser beam. A workpiece rest includes a frame, a plurality of rest elements that are arranged adjacent to one another in the frame so as to support the workpiece, and a supporting element attached to at least one of the rest elements.

Work rests for supporting a workpiece in a machining unit and machining units containing such work rests

In the course of a method for handling a workpiece having at least one through-opening, at least one suction element and the workpiece are placed against each other to form a suction chamber. A vacuum is generated in the suction chamber in order to fix the workpiece and the suction element to each other with a holding force for subsequent manipulation of the workpiece. The workpiece and the suction element are fixed to each other with a holding force by at least partially providing at least one through-opening of the workpiece opening into the suction chamber with a covering in order to reduce the flow of air through the through-opening to the suction chamber after the vacuum has been generated. A workpiece handling system is used to carry out the above-mentioned method.

Methods and systems for workpiece handling

A machine tool is provided for processing a workpiece, e.g., a metal sheet. The machine tool comprises at least one support configured to, in a support position, support a part of the workpiece on an upper surface, the part being completely separated from the workpiece, and a motion unit for moving the support downwards out of the support position into a discharge position located underneath the support. The motion unit is configured to accelerate the support, at least in a region of the part lying thereon, out of the support position along a gravitational direction with an acceleration which is greater than an acceleration of the part in the gravitational direction, and to move the accelerated support into an open position located outside a path of movement of the part at a speed such that the workpiece part attains the discharge position in free fall.

Removing a processed part

Workpiece rests are disclosed, for holding workpieces in machining systems which machine the workpieces using a cutting beam, e.g., a laser beam. A workpiece rest includes a frame, a plurality of rest elements which are arranged adjacent to one another in the frame so as to support the workpiece, and a supporting element attached to at least one of the rest elements.

A mechanical system is provided for processing workpieces, especially metal sheets. The system has a storage side with a workpiece store, a processing side with a plurality of mechanical processing units, and a mechanical feeding device which is provided between the storage side and the processing side. The feeding device comprises a plurality of feeding units, with different feeding units of the feeding devices being associated with different processing units. The feeding units are configured to pick up work pieces at the storage side and deliver them at the processing side to the respectively associated processing unit(s). In addition or as an alternative, the feeding units may pick up workpieces at the processing side from the respectively associated processing unit(s) and deliver the workpieces at the storage side.

Mechanical system for processing workpieces

The invention relates to a machine tool for processing a plate-like workpiece, including a processing tool. The processing tool is movable relative to the workpiece and the workpiece is movable relative to the processing tool along a common movement axis. A control unit selectively actuates the processing tool and the workpiece in such a manner that in a first processing mode both the processing tool and the workpiece are moved along the common movement axis and, in a second processing mode the processing tool alone is moved along the common movement axis. The invention further relates to a method for processing a workpiece of the kind mentioned above, to a method for creating a processing program, and to a computer program product having code for performing all steps of the method for creating the processing program.
