The invention relates to a method for adapting the composition of a mixture of fuel and combustion air. The mixture is supplied to a combustion chamber of a mixture-lubricated combustion engine in a work apparatus. The fuel is supplied to the combustion engine via a controlled fuel valve. In an operating state (I) of the combustion engine, the quantity of fuel is metered by the fuel valve. For the purpose of adapting the composition of the mixture, the combustion engine is shifted into a special operating state (II) which differs from the normal operating state (I). After starting, the combustion engine is operated in a first rotational speed range (B) for a prespecified operating time (T), wherein, after the prespecified operating time (T) has elapsed, the operating state (II) for adapting the composition of the mixture is initiated by a prespecified user action.

A power tool has a tool unit arranged between housing and housing cover. A stud bolt secured on the housing projects through a cover opening to the exterior. A handheld work apparatus has a housing with a guide bar affixed thereto. A saw chain is driven along the guide bar which defines a central plane. A drive element for the chain is in a sprocket wheel space delimited by a sprocket wheel cover. The cover has a longitudinal edge which delimits the space adjacent to a first side of the saw chain. The longitudinal edge has a length from an entry region to a discharge opening. Over at least 50% of this length, the longitudinal edge is at a distance (L) to the housing. The distance (L) corresponds to the chain width (a). The distance of the longitudinal edge of the cover increases at the discharge opening in the running direction of the first side. The largest distance (b) of the longitudinal edge to the central plane is at least 110% of the smallest distance (c).

Handheld work apparatus

A chain guard for a motor-driven chain saw has a narrow casing with a front end and a back end. The casing has two parallel side walls and an upper wall and a lower wall connecting the side walls to each other. The casing is closed at the front end thereof and defines an opening at the back end. A device is provided on the casing for attaching the chain guard to the clothing of the operator, a rope, a carabiner or the like.
