In order to improve the mounting of the drums 15 in drum-type washing machines, a bearing ring 31 which is at least partially exchangeable through an opening in the housing 13 of the washing machine is arranged between the cylindrical bearing connection piece 29 of the drum 15 and a bearing shell 26 fixed on the housing.

A ram-type press expresses liquid from material being pressed, particularly from a batch of wet textile materials. A press ram can be moved onto the material being pressed by the action of a pressure cylinder. A cylindrical shell, accommodating the material being pressed, can be closed at its bottom by a perforated thrust plate. The materials to be pressed and the press ram can be introduced one after the other from above into the cylindrical shell. The press ram is connected to an edge of an opening of a pot-shaped elastically yielding cushioning member and includes a union which can be connected to a water main in order to introduce water into the cushioning member. The bottom of this cushioning member forms a membrane which can be pressed against the material from which the liquid is to be expressed.

During assembly of a ram press for pressing liquid out of material being pressed, centering of the shell 19 which serves as wash basket with the axis of the press ram which engages the shell 19 is simplified by the shell 19 being horizontally movable with two degrees of freedom by being connected for pivotal motion about a second vertical axis 26 to the free end of an arm 25 which is pivotable about a first vertical axies 24'.

For controlling the quantities of supply, waste and recycled air which can be transported by means of a blower (36) for the drying process in a drier (10), this latter comprises a cohesive valve space (38) in which two valve flaps (40 and 42) can be pivoted by a drive. According to the position which the two valve flaps occupy, so the quantities of air supplied and carried away through the apertures (54, 62, 70, 74, 76, 80) in the valve chamber (38) for the drying process are controlled. A third valve flap (44) which can be triggered by a drive controls the process of blowing the washing out of the drier drum (16) after drying. For the sound and heat insulation of the drier (10), a housing (150) in two halves (152 and 154) which covers the blower (36) and the heat exchanger (34) is provided over the valve space.
