In a blast furnace plant, at least three regenerative heaters are cyclically operated on blast and on gas: while a regenerative heater is operated on gas, hot flue gas is produced and caused to flow through the regenerative heater so as to heat the heat storage elements; and while a regenerative heater is operated on blast, process gas, i.e. a CO-rich fraction of the top gas, is blown through the regenerative heater so that the process gas takes up heat from the heat storage elements, such that during a changeover of a regenerative heater from on-blast to on-gas operation, the regenerative heater is purged from process gas using flue gas collected after having flown through at least one of the regenerative heaters.

Method of operating regenerative heaters in blast furnace plant

A device for regulating the temperature of a gas in a hot gas main for feeding hot gas to a blast furnace includes a mixing pot with two mixing chambers in fluid communication with each other by means of a Venturi restriction. The first mixing chamber includes three inlet ports for feeding hot gas into the first mixing chamber, feeding cold gas into the first mixing chamber and feeding cold gas into the second mixing chamber, respectively. The first mixing chamber further includes an outlet port for feeding a first stream of mixed gas from the first mixing chamber to a first gas distribution system. The second mixing chamber includes a second outlet port for feeding a second stream of mixed gas from the second mixing chamber to a second gas distribution system. The first and second streams of mixed gas have different temperatures.

Device for regulating the temperature of a gas in a hot gas main

A ceramic burner for use in a combustion chamber of a regenerative heat generator, such as a hot blast stove of a blast furnace, the ceramic burner including a burner feed chamber with a partition wall for dividing the burner feed chamber into a fuel chamber and an air chamber, where the fuel chamber has a fuel inlet for receiving combustible fuel and a fuel outlet for feeding the combustible fuel to a mixing zone (), the air chamber having an air inlet for receiving combustion air and an air outlet for feeding the combustion air to the mixing zone, where the ceramic burner further includes a gastight metallic fuel container arranged in the burner feed chamber, the fuel container including the fuel chamber therein, a wall portion of the fuel container forming the partition wall between the fuel chamber and the air chamber.

A hot blast stove installation for heating cold blast to form hot blast includes a plurality of hot blast stoves each alternately operable during a heating phase and a blowing phase, a cold blast main for supplying cold blast to respective of the stoves during the blowing phases thereof, and combustion air and fuel gas mains for supplying combustion air and fuel gas to respective of the stoves during the heating phases thereof. The cold blast in the cold blast main has a relatively high temperature compared to ambient temperature, for example a temperature of from 100.degree. C. to 300.degree. C. A heat exchanger is connected to the cold blast main to remove heat from the cold blast therein prior to the supply of the cold blast to the stoves, thereby reducing the men and/or maximum waste gas temperature in the stoves during the heating phase of operation thereof.

Hot blast stove installation

A blast heating apparatus includes an inner metal shell having therein a refractory lining. An outer metal shell surrounds at least a portion of the inner metal shell and defines therewith a double shell structure. Spacers are positioned between the outer and inner metal shells to define therebetween a gap. At least a portion of such gap is filled with a pourable dry material having a grain size of up to 8 mm and a heat conductivity of at least approximately 1.5 W/Km.

Blast heating apparatus for blast furnaces

A blast heating apparatus includes an inner metal shell and an outer metal shell defining therebetween a gap filled with at least one pourable dry material, for example a mixture of SiC and graphite. To prevent excess pressure in the gap and to prevent condensate from entering the gap and attacking the outer shell, a piping system connects the gap to an area below the grate chamber of the blast heating apparatus.
