A cooling system for a computed tomography device includes a fan for generating an air stream and a fan housing; first flow duct for guiding the air stream is formed in the fan housing and relatively widens out in a direction of flow of the air stream; and an annular frame for accommodating a rotational bearing. A rotating frame of the computed tomography device is connectable to the annular frame and is mounted rotatably relative to the annular frame about an axis of rotation. An annular second flow duct for guiding the air stream is formed in the annular frame and the fan is attached to the annular frame via the fan housing such that the fan is arranged outside the annular frame and the air stream is guided via the first flow duct from the fan to the annular second flow duct.

An embodiment of the invention relates to a cooling system for an imaging apparatus having a gantry for cooling components arranged in the gantry, including a fan and a solid body. The solid body has an inlet opening, and an outlet opening, wherein the inlet opening is larger than the outlet opening. The solid body also has a positive guide, defined by a continuous outer boundary, for a first fluid from the inlet opening to the outlet opening, which continuously transforms the geometry of the inlet opening into the geometry of the outlet opening and defines a flow path for the first fluid, and has a flow channel for a second fluid, which is arranged in heat exchange communication with the flow path, and has an inlet and an outlet for the second fluid.

A gantry for a computed tomography apparatus has a supporting body and a support ring for a rotatable rotary carriage. The supporting body internally exhibits a channel that communicates in terms of flow with the support ring. A cooling ring with a cooling channel is mounted on the radially-inward circumferential side of the support ring. The cross-section of the cooling channel varies in the circumferential direction. The cooling ring exhibits a cooling ring region that has stiffening ribs.

A gantry for a computed tomography apparatus has a rotary carriage that is rotatable around an axis and a support ring arranged around the rotary carriage with a circumferential cooling channel. The support ring has a number of openings distributed around its circumference and forming a non-uniform opening pattern. A gating device to delimit an x-ray beam, has a device housing, first and second absorber elements mounted in the device housing opposite each other, and an adjustment device for moving the absorber elements relative to each other to set a spacing therebetween forming a slit for passage of an x-ray beam therethrough. Each absorber element has an edge shaped to give the slit a slit width that varies in a longitudinal direction of the slit that increases outwardly from a central position toward respectively opposite ends of the slit. Each slit edge has a middle region producing a uniform width of the slit and further regions respectively disposed on opposite sides of the middle region that produce a linearly, longitudinally increasing slit width. The adjustment device produces a parallelogram-like relative movement between the absorber elements.

In a method for operating a computed tomography apparatus, having an x-ray source rotatable around a system axis and a radiation detector with a detector-proximate beam-gating diaphragm, and a patient support, a spiral scan of a patient on the patient support is conducted by rotating the x-ray source around the system axis while moving the subject on the patient support substantially parallel to the system axis. The diaphragm have movable absorber elements that are curved, and are moved independently of each other toward and away from each other in a direction substantially parallel to the system axis during the spiral scan. The absorber elements are dynamically adjusted in an asymmetrical manner during the spiral scan to reduce overexposure of the examination subject to x-rays.
