The invention relates to a high pressure pump for a fuel injection system, in particular a common rail injection system, comprising a housing part () with a bore (), in which a pump piston () is received such that it can be moved with a reciprocating movement, which pump piston () is supported via a tappet assembly () on a cam () or eccentric and delimits a pump working chamber () in the axial direction, which pump working chamber () can be filled with fuel via an upstroke valve () which is integrated into the high pressure pump. According to the invention, a feed bore () is configured in the housing part () in order to supply the upstroke valve () with fuel, which feed bore () is connected to a bore () of a further housing part (), which bore () connects a pump interior chamber () and a tappet chamber ().

High pressure pump for a fuel injection system

The invention relates to a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, comprising a presupply pump () and a downstream high-pressure pump (), which is connected to a high-pressure accumulator () and wherein the high pressure accumulator () is operatively connected to at least one fuel injector (). According to the invention, a fuel injection system is provided and a method for operating such a fuel system is described which avoids the disadvantage of a slow pressure build-up in the high-pressure accumulator () and rather allows a rapid start of the internal combustion engine. This is achieved in that the presupply pump () is designed to generate a delivery pressure by which a fuel injection by means of the fuel injector () is effected, at least in a defined operating state of the internal combustion engine. At the delivery pressure generated by the presupply pump (), the fuel injector is prompted to open by a control device. A corresponding method for operating the fuel injection system provides for the presupply pump () to be operated in a starting operating mode until the internal combustion engine has been started, and after the internal combustion engine has been started to be operated in a presupply operating mode.

The invention relates to a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, comprising a high-pressure pump. A high-pressure outlet () of the high-pressure pump is connected to a high-pressure accumulator () that has at least one accumulator outlet () for connecting to a fuel injector. According to the invention, a fuel injection system which is compact and operates in a highly reliable manner is provided. This is achieved in that the high-pressure accumulator () is directly adapted to the high-pressure pump and in that the accumulator outlet () is aligned in a precisely defined position with respect to the high-pressure pump.

A piezoelectric actuator and an injector for an internal combustion engine are proposed, the electromagnetic compatibility of which is significantly improved in comparison with conventional injectors. The actuator head and/or actuator foot is manufactured out of a ceramic material, thus reducing the capacitance of the electric capacitor that is formed between the electrical ground and the piezoelectric actuator. An advantage of the piezoelectric actuator according to the invention is that no additional components are required. The change from metallic materials to ceramic materials also increases the rigidity of the piezoelectric actuator since ceramic materials have a significantly higher modulus of elasticity than metals.

The invention relates to a pump, particularly a high-pressure fuel pump, having a drive shaft, which includes a section that is eccentric to the rotational axis thereof and on which a ring is rotatably supported. The pump has at least one pump piston, which is directly supported on the ring via the piston base thereof, or via a support element and is driven in a stroke movement upon the rotational movement of the drive shaft. The ring has an at least approximately planar contact surface in the region of the support of the piston base or of the support element, and the support surface of the piston base or of the support element on the ring is greater than the cross-sectional surface of the shaft of the pump piston. The extension of the support surface of the piston base or of the support element in the tangential direction to the rotational axis of the drive shaft is greater than the extension thereof in the direction of the rotational axis of the drive shaft.

The invention relates to a device for supplying an internal combustion engine with fuel, having a fuel reservoir and a high-pressure pump, which are connected through a suction line, a metering valve which effects a change of the passage cross-section of the suction line, a rail for receiving high-pressure fuel, and a pressure control valve for controlling the pressure in the rail. The metering valve and the pressure control valve are combined in a common housing and have opposite opening directions. The metering valve and the pressure control valve have closing members which are rigidly connected to each other and are movable on a coincident movement axis.

The invention relates to a pump, particularly a high-pressure fuel pump, having a housing, a drive shaft that is rotationally driven and has at least one drive section, and at least one pump piston, which is guided in a cylinder bore of a housing part of the pump in a sealed manner and which is driven by the drive section of the drive shaft at least indirectly in a lifting motion. The at least one pump piston is acted on by a spring element at least indirectly toward the drive section of the drive shaft. The spring element is disposed on the side of the drive shaft opposite the pump piston, and via a coupling device extending past the drive shaft it engages at least indirectly on the pump piston.

An arrangement is proposed for forming a piezoelectric actuator, which has at least one piezoelectric element that in each case consists of a multi-layer structure of piezoelectric-layers, wherein internal electrodes arranged between the piezoelectric-layers in the direction of the build-up of the layers of the piezoelectric element, have an electrical voltage of different polarity alternately applied to them. Around the piezoelectric element, or in the case of multiple piezoelectric elements positioned in series in the activation direction, around the piezoelectric elements, and at least partially around the actuator head and the actuator foot there is arranged a covering system made from at least one layer of an insulating material. The invention relates to an injector for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The injector is actuated by an actuator and is connected to a fuel supply line via which fuel is supplied under system pressure. At least one injection opening can be opened or closed off by an injection valve member, which is activated by a control piston via a control chamber to which the control piston and a piston section of the injection valve member are exposed with respective pressure faces. The control piston is a valve piston of a control valve. The pressure face of the control piston and the pressure face of the piston section of the injection valve member are exposed to the control chamber at the same side. The control piston and the piston section of the injection valve member also enclose a further control chamber which is connected to a fuel return line when the control valve is open and to the fuel supply line when the control valve is closed.

A fuel injector having an injector body and a fuel inlet communicates with a high-pressure fuel source outside the injector body and including an actuator received in a hollow chamber from which a high-pressure inlet extends to an injection valve member. Depending on the pressure in the first hydraulic chamber, fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine when the injection valve member lifts from a seat. The actuator acts directly upon a stepped piston which defines the first hydraulic chamber and actuates a control piston. The injection valve member is guided in the control piston.

A fuel injector for an internal combustion engine has a nozzle needle that opens or closes at least one injection opening. At an end oriented away from the at least one injection opening, the nozzle needle has a step-shaped widening, which forms an end surface oriented toward the at least one injection opening. A common rail injector having an injector housing with a fuel inlet connected to a central high-pressure fuel source outside the injector housing and to a pressure chamber inside the injector housing from which pressure chamber depending on the pressure in a control chamber fuel is injected when a nozzle needle lifts away from its seat and in which the pressure in the control chamber is controlled in a direct, inverse fashion by an actuator in particular a piezoelectric actuator. The combustion chamber end of the actuator or an actuator head provided on the actuator is guided in actuator guide section of a coupler sleeve, which has a larger inner diameter than a nozzle needle guide section of the coupler sleeve in which the end of the nozzle needle oriented away from the combustion chamber is guided.

A fuel injection device for an internal combustion engine includes a housing and at least one valve element which cooperates with a valve seat on an injection end of the housing. A plurality of fuel outlet conduits in the housing are associated with the valve element. In the region of the beginning of the fuel outlet conduits a flow chamber is present which is formed by at least one annular groove that is concentric with the longitudinal axis of the valve element.
