In a Workflow Management System with a workflow having a sequence of activities of an underlying business process, logical wait situations occur when a given activity depends upon completion of a prerequisite preparation activity. A method for decreasing the resulting run-time delays includes: identifying a primary activity and an associated preparation activity required to be done before executing the primary activity; navigating through the process template of the underlying workflow and calculating the probability at a node of the process template that the primary activity will be reached for a current process instance; and pre-executing the preparation activity in parallel to the activity sequence if the probability exceeds a predetermined threshold.

The present invention relates to the field of computer programming. More specifically the invention relates to a method and a data processing system for editing the source code of a computer program. It is an object of the present invention to provide an easy source code editing technique, by which programming errors and type errors can reliably be avoided in cases where changes to the program are supposed not to change the semantics of the program. This object is achieved according to the invention by a method for editing source code, the method comprising the steps of: receiving a modification to the source code, said modification being made by a user, determining whether the modification would change the semantics of the source code, and handling the modification depending on the result of the determining step.

The present invention improves correlation of events emitted by software components during a thread of execution. Each software component invoked during the thread registers with a correlation information manager associated with the thread of execution and then deregisters from said correlation information manager when it ceases to participate in the thread. The correlation information manager stores registered software components in a stack structure. Whenever an event is to be emitted by a software component, the associated correlation information manager provides explicit correlation information that identifies at least the software component that emitted the most recent event in the thread and all software components that registered with the correlation information manager after the software component that emitted the most recent event and that are still registered.

Monitorable events are defined in a context of execution of a monitored component. Monitorable points of execution of the monitored component are identified, wherein events can be generated from the monitorable points. Transactions within a process model are determined by grouping a set of individual process activities into a single transaction. This effectively reduces the processing overhead, and, therefore, improves the overall throughput and latency of the execution of the process model. The transaction is determined by performing an optimization procedure that takes into account the structure of the process model as well as various properties of the single process activities of the process model. A method and system for automatically detecting deviations in a data table comprising a multitude of records and a multitude of columns. A column of the data table is selected as a classification column and a classification tree is calculated with respect to the classification column. Each edge of the classification tree is associated with a predicate. The leaf nodes of the classification tree are associated with a leaf record set comprising the subset of records for which the class predicate comprising all predicates along a path from a root node of the classification tree to the leaf nodes evaluates to TRUE. Leaf nodes are associated with a leaf label representing an expected value in the classification column for the corresponding leaf record sets. From the leaf record sets all records deviating with respect to the corresponding classification column from the leaf label are determined as deviation sets.

Method and system for detecting deviations in data tables

The invention relates to a computerized method for data mining for association rules and/or sequential patterns in a multitude of records. The invention is applicable to records that include a transaction-identification and at least one transaction-item with a corresponding item-type, wherein the multitude of records include transaction-items to be mined having different item-types. The method further includes a preprocessing step for transforming each record into one or more transaction-records in transaction-format. For each transaction-item to be data mined in a record, a transaction-record is generated and the transaction-record includes at least the transaction-identification of the record and an encoded transaction-item. The encoded transaction-item encodes the transaction-item and its corresponding item-type into one value. Finally the method includes a mining step wherein a state of the art data-mining technique is applied to the transaction-records for data mining for association rules and/or sequential patterns.
