A headlight for a motor vehicle having a light source, a reflector having a substantially concavely curved reflection surface by which a light emitted by the light source is reflected for producing a predetermined illumination intensity distribution, the reflector having at least one further reflection surface which follows the concave reflection surface in a light outlet direction, a light-permeable member located in a beam path of the light reflected by the reflector and formed so that the light passes through the light-permeable member without being substantially influenced, the at least one further reflection surface of the reflector being subdivided at least locally by visible separating lines into several facets, at least a part of the facets being formed so that the light emitted by the light source is reflected by the at least one part of the facets into at least one lateral region in front of the vehicle.

Headlight for vehicle

A headlight arrangement of a vehicle having a reflector subdivided into a plurality of reflector regions, a light source arranged in a region of an apex of the reflector so that a light emitted by the light source is reflected by the reflector onto a roadway in front of the vehicle, at least one screening device associated with at least one of the reflector regions, the screening device being adjustable between a position in which the light emitted by the light source can reach a selected one of the reflector regions, and a position in which a light emitted by the light source is at least partially screened from a selected one of the reflector regions, and a control unit which controls the screening device in dependence on vehicle sensor signals and adjusts the screening device so that in each vehicle situation an optimal light distribution is provided.

Headlight arrangement for motor vehicle

The headlight unit has at least one low beam headlight and at least one high beam headlight. The headlight unit is constructed so that it fulfills the different sets of legal regulations for the high beam in both the U.S.A. and Europe. According to the regulations in the U.S.A. the high beam produced by the high beam headlight must have a maximum light intensity in the center of the high beam and at least one required light intensity on the opposing traffic side. The at least one required light intensity on the same traffic side is provided by the low beam propagated from the at least one low beam headlight. This low beam has an asymmetric light-dark boundary that is higher on the same traffic side than on the side of the opposing traffic. According to the European regulations a comparatively higher maximum light intensity is permitted in the center of the high beam and a comparatively lower light intensity is required in the lateral regions. These latter regulations are fulfilled by the high beam produced by the high beam headlight in the headlight unit according to the invention.

Headlight unit for a vehicle fulfilling at least two different sets of legal regulations

The headlight is used as a high beam headlight and has a light source (12) propagating light that is reflected by a reflector (10) as a light beam, which produces maximum illumination intensities that do not exceed legally prescribed maximum illumination intensities. The headlight light is designed so that the high maximum illumination intensities permissible in Europe according to the ECE Rules are produced by the light beam issuing from it. A screen device (20,30) is insertable in this headlight, by which a portion of the light issuing from the light source (12) to the reflector (10) is blocked and thus prevented from reaching the reflector. Because of that the maximum illumination intensities produced by the light beam issuing from the headlight are reduced so that the headlight can be used, for example in the USA or Japan, where reduced maximum illumination intensities are permitted in comparison to those in Europe, by insertion of the screen device in the otherwise unchanged headlight.
