A quenching chamber of an entrained-flow gasifier that gasifies fuels at temperatures of up to 1,800&#xb0; C. and pressures of up to 10 MPa, wherein an annular chamber through which cooling water flows is formed between the pressure-bearing tank and the inner jacket. The overflow water is discharged from the annular chamber (skirt water) into the quenching chamber via the sleeve of a quenching lance, wherein blocking by the spray cone of the spray nozzle is prevented. The cooling water from the annular chamber is used in addition to the quenching water from the spray nozzle to cool and clean the raw gas in the quenching chamber.

Blockage-free water overflow from the water jacket of a quencher into the quenching chamber

A pressure filtration system for cleaning residual quenching water of a gasifying device that gasifies carbon-containing fuels under elevated pressure is provided. The soot water from the quencher is passed to a filter system, which has pressure filter chambers operating alternately in filtering mode under gasifying pressure or in cleaning mode. The filtrate from these chambers is passed to a quenching water reservoir, from which the quencher is fed with quenching water. Only small temperature and pressure losses with respect to the residual quenching water leaving, and only a small additional amount of energy has to be expended to overcome the remaining pressure difference to bring the filtrate that is to be returned back to the gasifying pressure. The residual quenching water is cleaned substantially under gasifying pressure in a pressure filter, avoids flash evaporation of the residual quenching water into the vacuum area, with vapour cooling and a subsequent increase in pressure and reheating.

Soot water cleaning by means of continuous pressure filtration

A device for the reliable measurement and control of the filling level in the quencher sump of a quenching chamber arranged downstream of the gasifying chamber is provided. The device has a differential-pressure transmitter. The measuring location recording the pressure of the gas chamber is flushed with inert gas. The device unproblematically senses the pressures in the quenching chamber and at the bottom of the quencher sump. The difference between which is used as a controlled variable for the filling level.

A method and device for cooling hot crude gas and slag from entrained flow gasification of liquid and solid combustibles at crude gas temperatures ranging from 1,200 to 1,800&#xb0; C. and at pressures of up to 80 bar in a cooling chamber disposed downstream of the gasification reactor by injecting water. The cooling water is distributed, with a first portion being finely dispersed into to cooling chamber and a second portion being fed at the bottom into an annular gap provided between the pressure-carrying tank wall and an incorporated metal apron for protecting said pressure-carrying tank wall. The second portion of the cooling water flows upward in the annular gap and trickles down the inner side of the metal apron in the form of a water film.

Method and apparatus for cooling hot gases and fluidized slag in entrained flow gasification

An entrained bed gasifier for operation with particulate or liquid fuels is provided. A reaction chamber defined by a cold screen and a quenching chamber connected to the reaction chamber using a crude gas and slag outlet, wherein at least the cold screen is enclosed by a pressure-resistant pressure mantle. The annular gap between the cold screen and pressure jacket may be filled with a fluid, for example, water or heat transfer oil. A rough pressure equalization between the gasification chamber and the annual gap may be guaranteed using a connection between the annular gap and the quenching chamber or the crude gas line, hence the pressure in the gasification chamber normally remains slightly higher than in the inner water jacket.

A method and device for evacuating ash and slag from reactors for pressure gasification of fuels, said fuels including coals of various ranks, cokes or ash-containing liquids or liquid-solid suspensions, at pressures between ambient pressure and 80 bar at gasification temperatures ranging between 800 and 1,800&#xb0; C. There is a water circuit for loosening the deposited slag between a gasification chamber downstream of which there is mounted a quench chamber to which there is connected a slag lock hopper. Circuit water is supplied to the upper and lower part of the quench chamber.
