The filled trench comprises: a pair of conduits () for delivering fluid with a different temperature in each of the conduits (), the pair of conduits () being surrounded by filling material; a first section () filled with a filling material of a first type (), wherein the first filled section () of the filled trench occupies a space in between the pair of conduits (); and a second section () filled with a filling material of a second type (). The present invention relates to a method for controlling setting of reversible heat pump assemblies () of a district thermal energy distribution system () in either a heating mode or a cooling mode. The method comprises: determining, at a control server, a first set of the reversible heat pump assemblies () to be set in the heating mode during a future time period; determining, at the control server, a second set of the reversible heat pump assemblies () to be set in the cooling mode during the future time period, wherein the second set of the reversible heat pump assemblies () is separate from the first set of the reversible heat pump assemblies (); sending, from the control server () to the reversible heat pump assemblies () of the first set of the reversible heat pump assemblies (), a respective control message to set the respective reversible heat pump assembly () in the heating mode for the future time period; sending, from the control server () to the reversible heat pump assemblies () of the second set of the reversible heat pump assemblies (), a respective control message to set the respective reversible heat pump assembly () in the cooling mode for the future time period; and setting the respective reversible heat pump assembly () in either the heating mode or the cooling mode for the future time period.

Disclosed is a method for controlling a control valve (), wherein the control valve () is configured to control a flow of heat transfer fluid to a thermal energy extraction unit (). The method comprising: reviewing (S) a demand signal for the control valve (); checking (S) if the demand signal is indicative of setting the control valve () in a hysteresis interval for the control valve (); and upon the demand signal is indicative of setting the control valve () in the hysteresis interval, alternatingly (S) setting the control valve () in an open state above the hysteresis interval and setting the control valve () in a closed state.

A method for controlling a district thermal energy distribution system is presented. The method comprises: determining whether a local pressure difference between a feed line () and a return line () of a distribution grid () is below a predetermined threshold; upon the local pressure difference is determined to be below the predetermined threshold, generating a control signal comprising information instructing a local distribution system () to reduce outtake of heat or cold from the distribution grid (); sending the control signal to a local control unit () of the local distribution system (); and reducing, in response to the control signal, the outtake of heat or cold of the local distribution system () from the distribution grid (). The distribution grid () may be a district heating grid or a district cooling grid. Also, a control server and a district thermal energy distribution system is presented.

The method includes determining a base steering temperature for the local distribution system's outtake of heat from the thermal energy distribution grid, receiving a control signal indicative of reducing the steering temperature for the local distribution system's outtake of heat from the thermal energy distribution grid; determining a reduced steering temperature for the local distribution system's outtake of heat from the thermal energy distribution grid based on the control signal and the base steering temperature; determining a return temperature of a heat transfer fluid in the return, and upon the determined reduced steering temperature being lower than the return temperature, determining a temporary steering temperature higher than the return temperature and lower than the base steering temperature; and controlling the local distribution system's heat outtake based on the temporary steering temperature.

The disclosure relates to a method for controlling a thermal distribution system. The method comprises producing heat at a production plant, and determining a capacity limit of the production plant. At a central server, the current and/or forecasted production of heat in the production plant in relation to the capacity limit of the production plant is evaluated. The method further comprises to in response to the current or forecasted production at the production plant approaching the capacity limit, output from the central server a respective control signal to one or more of a plurality of local control units, and receiving the control signal at the respective local control unit. The method further comprises to in response to receiving the control signal at the respective local control unit, reduce an associated local distribution system's outtake of heat or cold from a distribution grid connected to the production plant.
