A method for configuring a QoS for a wireless communication network bearer corresponding to a wireless device is provided. The method includes assigning a first QoS profile to the bearer when the wireless device is in a first QoS region served by a first wireless communication network cell, the first QoS profile corresponding to a first QoS available in the first wireless communication network cell but not available to the wireless device in a second wireless communication network cell neighboring the first wireless communication network cell. The method further includes establishing communication for the bearer between the wireless device and the second wireless communication network cell when the wireless device begins a handover process with the second wireless communication network cell, the communication for the bearer being established using the first QoS profile but corresponding to a second QoS level different from the first QoS level.

QoS configuration for a wireless device

A method performed by a first network node for controlling user plane traffic flows relating to wireless devices in a wireless telecommunications network is provided. The first network node is configured to transmit the user plane traffic flows over a first transmission path to a second network node in the wireless telecommunications network. The first network node determines that a user plane traffic flow related to a wireless device is to be transmitted over a second transmission path to an intermediary network node configured to communicate with the first and second network nodes in the wireless telecommunications network based on the type of the user plane traffic flow, the wireless device related to the user plane traffic flow and/or the content of the user plane traffic flow. Then, the first network node controls the user plane traffic flow such that the user plane traffic flow is transmitted over the second transmission path to the intermediary network node in the wireless telecommunications network.

Method for controlling user plane traffic flows in a wireless telecommunication network

A method performed by a traffic analyzing element in a communication network in which a radio device communicates over a packet switched (PS) radio access bearer (RAB) with a radio access network (RAN) using compression in uplink (UL). The method comprises measuring at least one property of radio traffic between the radio device and the RAN. The method also comprises predicting a fraction of UL data on the PS RAB which will be compressible, based on the measuring. The method also comprises outputting information about the predicted fraction to a memory size estimating element in the communication network. Related are a method performed by a memory size estimating element, as well as to a memory size estimating element and a traffic analyzing element.

Radio compression memory allocation

Methods and apparatus are provided for use in compressing packet traffic associated with a user equipment in a network. The compression ratio is estimated/calculated for a packet in the packet traffic based on a compression length for compressing the packet. The estimated/calculated compression ratio is compared with a target compression ratio. The compression length is adjusted when the estimated compression ratio has not reached at least the target compression ratio. The adjusted compression ratio is used as the compression length for compressing the packet traffic.

Dynamic compression coverage

To control a TCP congestion window size for data sent from a TCP sending node in a communications network towards a TCP receiving node via a Radio Access Network, the TCP sending node determines a minimum required bit rate for a data stream sent towards the TCP receiving node. It then determines that a sending bit rate of the data stream must be reduced using a TCP congestion avoidance mechanism. When the congestion avoidance mechanism is applied, the congestion window size is adjusted such that the sending bit rate is no lower than the minimum required bit rate.

Controlling a transmission control protocol congestion window size

A method in a network entity associates a unique identifier with an event, for example a television program. The method comprises the steps of receiving an original time reference allocated to the event, for example an original start time for the event, and generating a first identifier (event_ID) to identify the event, wherein the first identifier is based on a set of first identifiers (event_IDs) that have a predetermined repetition period. The method further comprises the step of generating a second identifier (program_ID) to identify the event, wherein the second identifier is unique over time and based on a function of the first identifier and the original time reference allocated to the event. Various embodiments describe how changes to the original time reference can be made, yet still allow the unique event identifier to be determined.

Apparatus and method for identifying events

For controlling radio transmission in a cellular network, a network node detects data traffic between the cellular network and a user equipment. The detected data traffic is based on a transport protocol which involves transmission of an acknowledgement to acknowledge successful reception of data by the user equipment. The network node estimates a time at which sending of an future acknowledgement by the user equipment is expected. On the basis of the estimated time, the network node allocates UL radio resources to the user equipment. By sending an uplink grant, the network node may indicate the allocated uplink radio resources to the user equipment.

Predictive scheduling for uplink transmission in a cellular network

A method and a radio network node for handling traffic on an Access Stratum 'AS' bearer are disclosed. The radio network node receives, from a second core network node, an AS bearer request for setting up the AS bearer to carry traffic between a first core network node and a wireless communication device, wherein the AS bearer request includes a first AS Quality of Service profile, a second AS Quality of Service profile, and at least one criterion for applying the first or second AS Quality of Service profile when processing the traffic. The radio network node processes the traffic while applying the first or second AS Quality of Service profile based on whether one of the at least one criterion is fulfilled. Furthermore, corresponding methods, a first core network node, a second core network node and a wireless communication device for handling traffic on a common bearer are disclosed.

Methods and nodes for managing bearers

There is provided a method of conveying information using a set of first identifiers, the set of first identifiers having a first number, M, of possible values for representing a first number, M, of first information items. The method comprises the steps of partitioning the set of first identifiers into a second number, N, of sub-partitions, wherein the second number, N, of sub-partitions represents the number of possible values required to represent a set of second information items. A sub-partition is used to transmit a second information item while also transmitting a first information item using a first identifier.

Apparatus and method for conveying information

A method of configuring a header compression or decompression algorithm in a packet network. The method comprises the steps of analyzing or receiving packet information associated with packet traffic, and determining a representative header length to consider as the header length for a plurality of packets. The method further comprises using the representative packet header length to configure one or more compression or decompression algorithms used in the network.

Configured header compression coverage

A method of performing a compression operation on data in a mobile communication network. An intermediate node located between a mobile terminal and a mobility anchor point node, receives a data payload. If the intermediate node has access to compression information required to perform the compression operation, it performs the compression operation to generate a modified data payload and sends the modified data payload to a next node. If the intermediate node does not have access to compression information required to perform the compression operation, it sends the data payload to the next node. The compression operation may be data compression or de-compression.

Handover in a radio communication network

A method and apparatus for handling data compression in a mobile communication network. A node located between a mobile terminal and a mobility anchor point determines compression information relating to data transferred between the node and the mobile terminal. The node then sends the compression information to a network repository node for storage and retrieval by a further node in an event that subsequent mobility of the mobile terminal leads to transferring data between the mobile terminal and the further node.

Data compression in a communications network

A method of updating data compression software. The method comprises using real-time data to train upgraded compression/decompression software. A compressor and/or decompressor function processes and delivers the real-time data using an existing compression/decompression software. Following completion of the training process, the compressor and/or decompressor deactivates the existing compression/decompression software and activates the upgraded compression/decompression software to process and deliver the real-time data.
