The present invention relates to an implantable paste comprising bioactive glass powder having a size distribution of 0.5-45 μm, bioactive glass granules having a size distribution between 100 and 4000 μm, low molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 200-700 g/mol, medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 700-2500 g/mol, high molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 2500-8000 g/mol and glycerol. The composition of the bioactive glass is 45-55 weight-% of SiO, 20-25 weight-% of NaO, 18-25 weight-% of CaO and 3-6 weight-% of PO, and the molecular weight of the low molecular weight polyethylene glycol and of the medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol differ from each other by at least 80 g/mol and that the molecular weight of the medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol and of the high molecular weight polyethylene glycol differ from each other by at least 300 g/mol.

Implantable paste and its use

Biocompatible and resorbable melt derived glass compositions which include: SiO60-70 weight-%, NaO 5-20 weight-%, CaO 5-25 weight-%, MgO 0-10 weight-%, PO0.5-3.0 weight-%, BO0-15 weight-%, AlO0-5 weight-%, and which contain less than 0.05 weight-% potassium. Biocompatible and resorbable glass fibers manufactured from these glass compositions, medical devices containing fibers of the invention, the use of these compositions for the manufacture of glass fiber and the use of the fibers for the manufacture of medical devices are also disclosed.

Resorbable and biocompatible fibre glass compositions and their uses

The present invention relates to an implantable paste comprising bioactive glass spheres having a size distribution of 50-425 &#x3bc;m, low molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 200-700 g/mol, medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 700-2500 g/mol and high molecular weight polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight range of 2500-8000 g/mol, with the proviso that the molecular weight of the low molecular weight polyethylene glycol and of the medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol differ from each other by at least 80 g/mol and that the molecular weight of the medium molecular weight polyethylene glycol and of the high molecular weight polyethylene glycol differ from each other by at least 300 g/mol.

The present invention relates to a system for manufacturing fibres comprising a melting furnace, a crucible within said furnace comprising at least one orifice () and at least one induction coil () for heating the melting furnace and the crucible. In a typical system according to the invention, the crucible comprises at least a first part () made of graphite and comprising said at least one orifice (). The invention also relates to the use of the system as well as to a method for manufacturing fibres and to said fibres.
