A Crenewable base oil is disclosed that is suitable as a base oil to provide low viscosity base oils, such as having both low Noack volatility and low CCS-30&#xb0; C. viscosity and/or to provide low viscosity base oils at the same time having a combination of acceptable HTHS and KV100 to allow the industry's base oil blenders to formulate high quality engine oils, such as SAE grade 0W-20, 0W-16, 0W-12 or 0W-8.

The present invention relates to a process for producing polyolefins wherein a feedstock comprising n-olefin or a mixture of n-olefins is dimerized in the presence of a solid acidic catalyst by passing the feedstock to a catalytic distillation apparatus comprising either a) a combination of a distillation column and a reactor comprising at least one catalyst bed, or b) a distillation column connected to one or more side reactors comprising at least one catalyst layer, recovering the unreacted n-olefin from the distillation column or the combination of the distillation column and the reactor at the upper part thereof as a side-stream to be combined with the feedstock, and the reaction product from the dimerization is hydrogenated.

Method for removing catalyst from an oligomer product

The invention relates to a method for removing a boron trifluoride from the exhaust gases of a vacuum pump, which gases have been obtained when polymerizing .alpha.-olefines by using a BF.sub.3 -alcohol complex as a catalyst. In a vacuum distillation, the underpressure is achieved by means of a pump sealed with a fluid ring or by means of fluid jet with a torque or ejector pump, possibly assisted by a mechanical blaster, such as a propellant circulating pump. In this pump, the fluid ring or the fluid jet is formed by a cocatalyst forming a complex with the BF.sub.3 catalyst, which cocatalyst is an alcohol, preferably butanol.

In producing lubricants by oligomerizing alpha-olefins with the aid of a catalyst of a BF.sub.3 and alcohol or carboxylic acid cocatalyst, the utilized catalyst complex can be recovered by distillation and reused as catalyst in a similar oligomerizing process.
