The invention is directed to a process for preparing polyamide polymers, particularly nylon 6, 6 and nylon 6, comprising fluoroether functionalized aromatic repeat units. The composition of a (phosphonyl) aromatic compound represented by is provided. In this composition, R(a) and R(b) are each independently H, CH, phenyl or benzyl; R(a) and R(b) are each independently H, CH, phenyl or benzyl with the proviso that no more than one Rand no more than one Rcan be phenyl or benzyl; R(a) and R(b) are each independently CH, phenyl or benzyl; and, n is an integer of 1-10; and p is an integer of 1-10. Preparation of (phosphonyl) aromatic diesters and acids

Disclosed is a polycondensation process for preparing block copolyesters comprising blocks of fluoroether functionalized aromatic polyester and blocks of unmodified polyester. According to the process, a non-fluorinated poly(alkylene arylate) first homopolymer and a fluoroether functionalized poly(alkylene arylate) second homopolymer are combined to form a reaction mixture; the reaction mixture is heated to a temperature above the melting temperatures of each said homopolymer to prepare a molten reaction mixture; and the reaction is continued until the desired molecular weight is achieved. The block copolymers incorporated into blends with unmodified aromatic polyester impart oil and soil resistance to shaped articles prepared from the blends.

Process for preparing fluorinated block copolyesters

Provided are films made from copolyesters having improved oil repellency as compared to conventional copolyesters. The copolyesters are derived from certain perfluorinated monomers.

Disclosed are fluorovinyl ether functionalized aromatic diesters and derivatives thereof. The compounds disclosed have utility as functionalized monomers and comonomers in polyesters, polyamides, and the like. It has been found that incorporation of the monomers into polymers provides improved soil resistance to shaped articles produced from the polymers.
