A vehicle seat and an airbag system, the seat having a backrest and a squab, extending from the backrest in a longitudinal direction, the backrest extending in height from the squab at a first lower position to a second upper position arranged proximal to shoulders of an occupant in a seated position, the airbag system having an airbag to receive inflating gas from an inflator to inflate the airbag, in which the airbag includes an upper region that extends over a head of the occupant in the seated position and a lower region that extends between a first and second side of the backrest and around a mid-section of the seated occupant, the airbag system having a tether system interconnecting the seat at the second upper position of the backrest and airbag to restrain the lower region of the airbag in the inflated configuration in the longitudinal direction.

Vehicle airbag system

A vehicle seat for supporting an occupant in a sitting position includes a backrest, and an airbag unit. The airbag unit comprises an inflatable airbag provided in an initially rolled and/or folded airbag package, and an inflator actuable to direct inflating gas into the airbag to inflate the airbag into an inflated configuration. The airbag comprises a pair of inflatable chambers which are physically connected to one another via a connecting interface, and are fluidly isolated from one another. The airbag unit is mounted and configured such that, upon actuation of said inflator to inflate the airbag, the inflatable chambers inflate into respective deployed positions in which they: i) extend forwardly from respective opposing and laterally spaced-apart side regions of said backrest; and ii) extend upwardly, and laterally inwardly across an uppermost region of the seat towards said connecting interface, so as to thereby cooperate to define an inflated shroud around at least an uppermost region of the backrest so as to extend over the sitting position and provide lateral protection to a said occupant of the seat in the sitting position.

Vehicle seat

There is proposed a vehicle seat configured to support an occupant () in a sitting position, the seat comprising: a squab (), a backrest (), and an airbag unit. The airbag unit comprises an inflatable bag () and an inflator (). The airbag comprises an inflatable chamber (). The airbag further comprises an inflatable guide (), connected to the inflator and the inflatable chamber. Upon actuation of said inflator, said inflatable guide is at least partially inflated before the inflatable chamber, thereby initially urging the inflatable chamber away from the backrest of the seat. The airbag is configured such that after the inflatable guide is at least partially inflated, the inflatable chamber inflates into a deployed position in which it defines an inflated shroud which extends over said sitting position and provides lateral protection to said occupant of the seat in said sitting position.

Airbag unit for a vehicle seat

An air bag device for a vehicle seat has a first air bag portion to be attached to at or close to a first lateral side of a backrest and a second air bag portion to be attached to a second lateral side of a backrest. The first air bag portion and second air bag portion are connected with each other by a third air bag portion designed to be located along a part of the upper portion of a backrest. The air bag device is designed to, when mounted to a vehicle seat, limit the lateral movement of the torso of an occupant and protect an occupant. The third portion will contribute with an increased stability of the air bag device when deployed. The air bag device may be adapted to protect the head of an occupant from injuries.

Air bag device and vehicle seat provided with an air bag device

A vehicle seat includes a seat frame, a first air-bag unit and a second air-bag unit. The seat frame is at least partially covered by a padding material and substantially covered by a cover. The first air-bag unit includes a first air-bag mounted within an outboard side of the seat, and substantially covered by the cover. The second air-bag unit includes a second air-bag mounted within the outboard side of the seat and substantially covered by the cover. The first air-bag is configured to inflate and burst through the cover, when activated, and to bear against an occupant of the seat sitting in a normal position in the seat, thereby exerting a pushing force against the occupant in an inboard direction. The second air-bag is configured to inflate and burst through the cover when activated, and to occupy a position between an occupant of the seat and an exterior side wall of the vehicle.

Safety arrangement

An airbag arrangement with an inflatable curtain airbag for a vehicle includes fixation elements to fix the inflatable curtain airbag to the interior side structure of the vehicle. The airbag further includes an inflatable area to cover parts of the interior side structure of the vehicle. A fender airbag is provided adjacent to the inflatable area and/or the fixation elements of the inflatable curtain airbag. The fender airbag is inflated with a time delay with respect to the inflation of the inflatable area of the inflatable curtain airbag.

Airbag arrangement

The invention relates to an airbag comprising a flexible fastening tab () having a fastening opening () for attachment to a motor vehicle by means of a form-locking element (), whereby a fastening region () and a folding region () are constructed in the tab (), the fastening opening () is constructed in the fastening region () and a folding opening () is constructed in the folding region (), and whereby the folding opening () is dimensioned such that the folding region () can fold at least partially over the form-locking element ().

Airbag with a flexible fastening tab

In at least one embodiment of the present invention, an inflatable curtain for a motor vehicle is provided. The inflatable curtain is formed of layers of fabric and is deployable from a rolled state forming a roll to an inflated state. The air-bag comprises part of the air-bag that forms the upper-most edge of the air-bag when the air-bag is in the inflated state extending downwardly from the roll to lie proximate a side part of the motor vehicle on which the air-bag is to be mounted. At least a portion of the roll is positioned above the upper-most edge in the rolled state and is driven downward below the upper-most edge during deployment to the inflated state. The air-bag further provides a gas flow duct. When the air-bag is in the rolled state, the gas flow duct is provided at the top part of the roll.

Side curtain air-bag

An Inflatable curtain airbag for a vehicle comprising an airbag body () rolled or folded to form a longitudinal airbag package with several attachment portions () and an indication element () for indicating a twisted attachment status of the airbag at the vehicle structure. The indication element () is arranged in a releasable manner along at least parts of the longitudinal extension of the package.

Inflatable curtain airbag

An inflatable curtain () having an upper attachment edge () provided with mounting elements () for mounting the inflatable curtain in a vehicle cabin for deployment beside an interior surface () of the vehicle cabin. A gas-flow passage () extends along the attachment edge, and communicates with cells () defined by seams () in an inflatable region () which has a lower edge (). Mounting elements () are located between the seams () of a respective cell (). The inflatable curtain is formed from an inboard layer of fabric and an outboard layer of fabric, and is rolled from the region of the lower edge () with the roll being adjacent the outboard layer and with part of the inboard layer forming the exterior of the roll.

Air-bag arrangement and a method of preparing and mounting an air-bag

A curtain airbag for installation in the roof frame area of a motor vehicle exhibits at least one guide chamber which is located in the upper section of curtain airbag and which is connected with its inflatable area from the point of view of gas flow. The at least one guide chamber can be inflated on the outer side of the curtain airbag when this is in a mounted state. The upper section of curtain airbag is directed downwards when in the mounted state.

Curtain airbag and vehicle

In at least one embodiment of the present invention, an airbag unit is provided. The airbag unit comprises an airbag made of fabric. The unit has fastening devices for attaching the airbag to a motor vehicle. A cover section is proximate to the fastening devices and is fastened to the airbag. The cover section is configured to not completely cover the airbag when the airbag is in an unrolled state and forms a wrapping of the airbag when the airbag is rolled-up with the cover section to define rolled-up state.

Airbag unit

In at least one embodiment, an air bag system comprises an air bag having an impact surface which in a non-inflated state is arranged in a housing located below the upper edge of a windowsill of a vehicle door. In an inflated state, at least part of the impact surface is positioned above the windowsill. There is a supporting surface for the air bag below the upper edge of the windowsill. The air bag defines a main chamber and a supporting chamber. The impact surface forms part of the main chamber. The supporting chamber, in an inflated state, is situated between the main chamber and the supporting surface and is supported at least in part by the supporting surface.

Air bag system for motor vehicles

An air-bag in the form of an inflatable curtain () rolled to form a roll (). Part () of the inflatable curtain that is to form the uppermost edge () of the inflatable curtain when inflated initially extends downwardly from the roll to lie adjacent a side part on motor vehicle on which the inflatable curtain is to be mounted.
