It is provided a location determiner comprising: a first antenna; a radio signal modification device, wherein the radio signal modification device is configured to improve an ability to determine whether the portable key device is located on a back side or on a front side of the location determiner, based on obtaining a channel impulse response, CIR, of an impulse signal transmitted from the portable key device, wherein the location determiner is installable such that the back side is in a space being restricted by selectively unlockable a physical barrier and the front side is opposite the back side.

It is provided a beacon circuit for use with electronic locks. The beacon circuit comprises a transmitter. The beacon device is configured to repetitively transmit a beacon signal to initiate subsequent communication with a receiver. The energy use for the beacon signal employs a communication channel which consumes less power than a communication channel for the subsequent communication. The beacon signal comprises an indication of time of the subsequent communication.

It is provided a method for selectively granting access to a physical space secured by a barrier. The method is performed in a credential evaluator and comprises the steps of: determining a matching list containing a strict subset of credential identifiers of credentials within range of an antenna provided in a proximity of the barrier, wherein the matching list is based on how long each credential has been within range of the antenna; obtaining a set of biometric templates, consisting of biometric templates respectively associated with the credential identifiers of the matching list; obtaining biometric data of a person being closest to the barrier; and wherein a positive match between biometric data and one of the biometric templates is a necessary condition for granting access to the physical space.

It is provided a method for determining when a portable key device is located on a front side or on a back side in relation to a barrier secured by an electronic lock. The method is performed in a location determiner and comprises the steps of: obtaining a channel impulse response, CIR, based on an impulse signal transmitted from the portable key device, the CIR being based on a plurality of samples of the impulse signal as received by an antenna being fixedly mounted in relation to the electronic lock; and determining, based on the CIR, whether the portable key device is located on the front side or on the back side.

It is provided a method for enabling remote unlock of a lock securing access to a physical space. The method is performed in a server and comprises the steps of: receiving, from a first mobile device, an access request to unlock a lock, wherein the request comprises an identifier of the lock and a user identifier associated with an access requester, being a user of the first mobile device; finding a remote credential device being associated with the lock; and transmitting an access request to the remote credential device, the access request comprising an identifier based on the user identifier.

According to a first aspect, it is provided a method for requesting access to a physical space secured by a lock. The method is performed in a mobile device of a user and comprises the steps of: authenticating the mobile device with an authentication server, resulting in a token, being a data item, indicating one or more access groups to which the user belongs, wherein the token is cryptographically signed by the authentication server; storing the token in the mobile device; obtain a lock identifier of the lock; and transmitting an access request to an access control device, the access request comprising the token and the lock identifier.

It is provided a method for determining whether a portable key device is located inside or outside a metal door. The method is performed by a credential communication device and comprises the steps of: obtaining a first time-of-flight, ToF, measurement between a first antenna and the portable key device, wherein the first antenna is located on the outside of the metal door; obtaining a second ToF measurement between a second antenna and the portable key device, wherein the second antenna is located on the inside of the metal door; and determining the portable key device to be located on the outside of the metal door when the first ToF measurement is less than the second ToF measurement by an amount which is greater than a threshold value.

It is provided a method for determining when to trigger positioning of a portable key device used in access control for an electronic lock controlling access to a restricted physical space. The method is performed in a positioning determiner and comprises the steps of: obtaining movement data from a motion sensor of the portable key device, the movement data indicating movement of the portable key device; determining when the movement data indicates a stop in motion of the key device; and triggering positioning of the portable key device when a stop in motion of the key device has been determined.

The method is performed in a security device and comprises the steps of: obtaining at least one image captured using a first camera of a portable key device, the at least one image being captured in a vicinity of the lock device; receiving a template decryption key from a lock device over a short-range communication link; obtaining a credential associated with the lock device; matching the at least one image with a plurality of templates, each template being associated with a lock device, which comprises obtaining the plurality of templates by decrypting encrypted templates using the template decryption key; and wherein a positive match is a necessary condition for opening the lock device.

The method is performed in a lock device and comprises the steps of: receiving an access request from an electronic key; obtaining a plurality of delegations, wherein each delegation is a delegation from a delegator to a delegatee, the plurality of delegations collectively forming a chain of delegations wherein when two delegations are chained together, the delegatee of one delegation is the delegator of the next delegation; determining that a delegation in the chain of delegations is an emergency delegation, the emergency delegation indicating that access should only be granted when an emergency situation occurs; determining when an emergency situation occurs; and granting access to the physical space when the chain of delegations starts in the lock device and ends in the electronic key; and when the emergency situation occurs.

It is provided a method for managing access control to a physical space controlled by a first lock device. The method is performed by an access management device, and comprises the steps of: determining whether a mobile credential is located inside or outside a barrier secured by a lock device; storing an inside indicator in association with the mobile credential when it is located on the inside of the barrier, the inside indicator being valid until explicitly cleared; and preventing the mobile credential from establishing a communication channel with the first lock device when a valid inside indicator is stored for the mobile credential.

It is provided a method for determining when access control of an electronic lock, controlling access to a restricted physical space, should be performed. The method is performed in an intent determiner and comprising the steps of: obtaining movement data from a first sensor of a portable key device, the movement data indicating movement of the portable key device; obtaining a distance indicator from a second sensor, the distance indicator being indicative of distance between the electronic lock and the user; determining when there is user intent to open based on both the movement data and the distance indicator; and triggering access control to be performed only when user intent has been determined.

It is provided a lock device for controlling access to a physical space. The lock device comprises: an electronically controllable lock; and a handle comprising a fingerprint sensor for capturing a fingerprint of a finger presented to the fingerprint sensor and obtaining fingerprint data based on a captured fingerprint, wherein the handle is configured to communicate wirelessly with the electronically controllable lock to selectively control unlocking of the electronically controllable lock based on the fingerprint data. The handle is configured to identify a user from the captured fingerprint, wherein an identifier of the identified user is communicated wirelessly from the handle to the electronically controllable lock to enable the electronically controllable lock to evaluate whether to perform an unlocking action.

An access control system is described along with a method for operating the system. In one example, a system and method are disclosed that provide a hands-free solution thereby enabling a user to walk through a door or portal with no stop in motion and limited to no interaction or user effort. Security of the system is still maintained even though user interactions are significantly decreased.
