There is provided mechanisms for transmission of reference signal resources from a terminal device. A method is performed by the terminal device. The terminal device comprises at least two antenna panels and a baseband chain operable to be switched between the at least two antenna panels. The baseband chain is thereby connected to each of the antenna panels one at a time. The method comprises distributing a fixed set of reference signal resources among the at least two antenna panels by selecting which beams are to be used for transmission of the reference signal resources. The reference signal resources are distributed among the at least two antenna panels according to antenna panel selection information. The method comprises transmitting each of the reference signal resources in a respective one of the beams as the baseband chain is connected to each antenna panel used for generating the beams.

Transmission of reference signal resources and configuration thereof

A method and user equipment (UE) for providing beam reports for UEs that use different kinds of antenna panels are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes performing a first performance measurement on a first beam associated with a first antenna panel having a first panel property. The method also includes performing a second performance measurement of a second beam associated with a second antenna panel having a second panel property. The method further includes selecting one of the first beam and the second beam based at least in part on the first panel property and the second panel property. The process also includes transmitting a beam report including the selected one of the first beam and the second beam.

User equipment (UE) beam reports for UES with different kinds of UE panels

A method performed in a network node of a communication system for muting antenna elements of an active antenna system. The method comprises determining, based on a priori information relating to performance of the communication system, an antenna element separation between one or more pairs of active antenna elements of at least a subset of all active antenna elements of the active antenna system; and muting at least one antenna element such that the determined antenna element separation is obtained between each of the one or more pairs of active antenna elements of at least the subset of all active antenna elements.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

There is provided mechanisms for scheduling communication with terminal devices. A method is performed by a network node. The method comprises receiving, in response to having performed a beam management procedure involving transmission of reference signals in a set of beams, a beam report from each of the terminal devices. Each beam report indicates one of the beams as top ranked. The method comprises scheduling communication for the terminal devices in beams of the set of beams. At least a first terminal device of the terminal devices and a second terminal device of the terminal devices are both scheduled in a first beam of the beams not indicated as top ranked in the beam report of the second terminal device.

Efficient scheduling of terminal devices

There is provided a method performed by a user equipment (UE). The method comprises: receiving a reference signal over multiple time instances; determining time domain properties of a channel, based on the received reference signal; and sending a report to a network node, the report comprising information about the determined time domain properties of the channel. A UE for implementing this method is also provided.

Methods and nodes for CSI reporting using TRS

A method () for precoding a signal. The method includes determining (s), based on uplink, UL, measurements, a spatial domain (SD) precoding vector and a frequency domain (FD) precoding vector for a downlink (DL) transmission of the signal. The method also includes applying (s) the FD precoding vector to the signal over subcarriers for carrying the signal, thus producing a modified signal. The method further includes applying (s) the SD precoding vector to the modified signal to produce a precoded signal, wherein the SD precoding vector is common for all said subcarriers in one symbol.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

There is presented a wireless device for dual-polarization beamforming. The wireless device comprises an antenna array. The antenna array comprises antenna elements of mutually orthogonal polarizations and a baseband chain. The antenna elements of both polarizations are operatively connected to the baseband chain. There is also presented a method for dual-polarization beamforming as performed by such a wireless device.

Dual-polarization beamforming

There is provided mechanisms for interference handling. A method is performed by a radio access network node. The method comprises obtaining an indication of interference in a time/frequency interval. The method comprises querying a neighbouring radio access network node about scheduling in the time/frequency interval of uplink wireless transmission from any terminal device served by the neighbouring radio access network node. The method comprises receiving a response from the neighbouring radio access network node. The response comprises information identifying uplink reference signal resources/ports, and their scheduling, as to be used by the terminal device scheduled in the time/frequency interval.

Interference handling at radio access network nodes

A method for acquiring an indication of a preferred beam of a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method is performed in a network node of a cellular communication network. The network node is adapted to support a plurality of beams of a signal beam-forming scheme and to communicate with the wireless communication device using at least one beam of the plurality of beams. A message indicative of the beam power setting is transmitted to the wireless communication device. Measurement signals are also transmitted. A report indicative of the preferred beam is received from the wireless communication device. The preferred beam is determined by the wireless communication device based on the measurement signals and the beam power setting. Corresponding methods for the wireless communication device, as well as corresponding arrangements, network node, wireless communication device, cellular communication network, and computer program products are also disclosed.

Determination of a preferred beam in a cellular communication network employing signal beam-forming

There is provided mechanisms for configuring beamforming settings. A method is performed by a wireless radio transceiver device configured to communicate in directional beams. The method comprises obtaining a performance indication requiring configuration of the beamforming settings of the wireless radio transceiver device. The method comprises selecting a similarity measure objective based on what kind of performance indication was obtained. The method comprises determining, based on the similarity measure objective and results from a similarity measure procedure applied to pairs of received signals, an order in which to evaluate the directional beams when configuring the beamforming settings.

Configuration of beamforming settings for a wireless radio transceiver device

There is provided mechanisms for transmission of reference signals. A method is performed by a terminal device. The terminal device comprises at least two physical antenna ports. The method comprises creating a virtual antenna port for, and applied over, at least two of the physical antenna ports. The method comprises transmitting, in the virtual antenna port, as many uplink reference signals as there are physical antenna ports.
