There is provided mechanisms for scheduling communication with terminal devices. A method is performed by a network node. The method comprises receiving, in response to having performed a beam management procedure involving transmission of reference signals in a set of beams, a beam report from each of the terminal devices. Each beam report indicates one of the beams as top ranked. The method comprises scheduling communication for the terminal devices in beams of the set of beams. At least a first terminal device of the terminal devices and a second terminal device of the terminal devices are both scheduled in a first beam of the beams not indicated as top ranked in the beam report of the second terminal device.

Efficient scheduling of terminal devices

There is provided a method performed by a user equipment (UE). The method comprises: receiving a reference signal over multiple time instances; determining time domain properties of a channel, based on the received reference signal; and sending a report to a network node, the report comprising information about the determined time domain properties of the channel. A UE for implementing this method is also provided.

Methods and nodes for CSI reporting using TRS

A method () for precoding a signal. The method includes determining (s), based on uplink, UL, measurements, a spatial domain (SD) precoding vector and a frequency domain (FD) precoding vector for a downlink (DL) transmission of the signal. The method also includes applying (s) the FD precoding vector to the signal over subcarriers for carrying the signal, thus producing a modified signal. The method further includes applying (s) the SD precoding vector to the modified signal to produce a precoded signal, wherein the SD precoding vector is common for all said subcarriers in one symbol.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

There is presented a wireless device for dual-polarization beamforming. The wireless device comprises an antenna array. The antenna array comprises antenna elements of mutually orthogonal polarizations and a baseband chain. The antenna elements of both polarizations are operatively connected to the baseband chain. There is also presented a method for dual-polarization beamforming as performed by such a wireless device.

There is provided mechanisms for interference handling. A method is performed by a radio access network node. The method comprises obtaining an indication of interference in a time/frequency interval. The method comprises querying a neighbouring radio access network node about scheduling in the time/frequency interval of uplink wireless transmission from any terminal device served by the neighbouring radio access network node. The method comprises receiving a response from the neighbouring radio access network node. The response comprises information identifying uplink reference signal resources/ports, and their scheduling, as to be used by the terminal device scheduled in the time/frequency interval.

Interference handling at radio access network nodes

A method for acquiring an indication of a preferred beam of a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method is performed in a network node of a cellular communication network. The network node is adapted to support a plurality of beams of a signal beam-forming scheme and to communicate with the wireless communication device using at least one beam of the plurality of beams. A message indicative of the beam power setting is transmitted to the wireless communication device. Measurement signals are also transmitted. A report indicative of the preferred beam is received from the wireless communication device. The preferred beam is determined by the wireless communication device based on the measurement signals and the beam power setting. Corresponding methods for the wireless communication device, as well as corresponding arrangements, network node, wireless communication device, cellular communication network, and computer program products are also disclosed.

Determination of a preferred beam in a cellular communication network employing signal beam-forming

There is provided mechanisms for configuring beamforming settings. A method is performed by a wireless radio transceiver device configured to communicate in directional beams. The method comprises obtaining a performance indication requiring configuration of the beamforming settings of the wireless radio transceiver device. The method comprises selecting a similarity measure objective based on what kind of performance indication was obtained. The method comprises determining, based on the similarity measure objective and results from a similarity measure procedure applied to pairs of received signals, an order in which to evaluate the directional beams when configuring the beamforming settings.

Configuration of beamforming settings for a wireless radio transceiver device

There is provided mechanisms for transmission of reference signals. A method is performed by a terminal device. The terminal device comprises at least two physical antenna ports. The method comprises creating a virtual antenna port for, and applied over, at least two of the physical antenna ports. The method comprises transmitting, in the virtual antenna port, as many uplink reference signals as there are physical antenna ports.

Transmission of reference signals from a terminal device

A wireless communication node comprising an antenna arrangement that is adapted to radiate at least one radiation beam of a first type and at least one radiation beam of a second type. Said at least one radiation beam of the first type has a first type beamwidth (B) and said at least one radiation beam of the second type has a second type beamwidth (B) that exceeds the first type beamwidth (B). Said at least one radiation beam of the first type is arranged for communication with at least a first other node, and where said at least one radiation beam of the second type is arranged for detection of changes in propagation paths for said other node and/or appearances of further other nodes.

A method of configuring a dual polarized antenna array for communication between a wireless device () and a wireless access network (), the antenna array comprising antenna elements with respective polarizations, where each antenna element is associated with a respective beamforming weight, the method comprising configuring the antenna array for transmission by a first set of beamforming weights w, wherein the first set of beamforming weights is arranged to provide a transmit antenna port connected to antenna elements of a first polarization and of a second polarization, wherein the transmit antenna port is associated with an antenna power pattern; transmitting a first signal via the transmit antenna port on a downlink, DL, from the antenna array to the wireless device; configuring the antenna array for reception by a second wand a third wset of beamforming weights, wherein the second set of beamforming weights wis arranged to provide a first receive antenna port connected to antenna elements of the first and of the second polarization, wherein the third set of beamforming weights wis arranged to provide a second receive antenna port connected to antenna elements of the first and of the second polarization, where each of the receive antenna ports is associated with the antenna power pattern, and where the receive antenna ports have different polarizations; and receiving a second signal on an uplink, UL, from the wireless device () to the antenna array, via the first receive antenna port and the second receive antenna port.

Antenna beam virtualization for wide beam wireless communication

A method for beam management, which method is performed by a network node. The method provides for using a first receive, RX, beam to receive a first signal transmitted by a user equipment, UE. The method then provides for obtaining, based on the first signal received using the first RX beam, a first received signal power value, P1. The method then provides for using a second RX beam to receive the first signal or another signal transmitted by the UE. The method then provides for obtaining, based on the signal received using the second RX beam, a second received signal power value, P2. The method then provides for determining whether P2 exceeds P1 by at least a threshold. The method then provides for determining whether to initiate a beam sweep based on whether or not P2 exceeds P1 by at least the threshold.

Method and network node for uplink beam management

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The method includes using a current RX beam () to receive a transmission from a network node (). The method further includes selecting () a new RX beam () to replace the current RX beam (). The method further includes, after selecting () the new RX beam (), transmitting (-) a channel state information (CSI) report to the network node (). Mechanisms for beam management. An example method, in a network node, comprises transmitting a reference signal so as to enable each of the terminal devices participating in a first part of the beam management procedure to identify in which of a first set of beams the reference signal is received with highest power. The method comprises transmitting the reference signal in a second part of the procedure so as to enable each of the terminal devices to identify in which of a second set of beams the reference signal is received with highest power. The method comprises transmitting the reference signal during a third part of the procedure so as to enable each of the terminal devices to identify in which of a third set of beams the reference signal is received with highest power. There is one third set for each beam in the first set.
