A respiratory therapy apparatus includes a rocker mechanism () that provides an oscillating resistance to expiration. The apparatus also includes an air entrainment arrangement () at its air inlet () having a ring orifice () connected via a gas inlet () to a source () of oxygen at elevated pressure. The oxygen emerging around the ring orifice () entrains ambient air and supplies this as a continuous flow of respiratory gas to the patient interface () to provide a positive airway pressure.

Respiratory therapy apparatus

Apparatus for warming medical infusion fluids includes a heat pipe () warmed by an electrical heater () at one end. A replaceable fluid flow path () of helical configuration extends along the heat pipe () and is formed between an inner, thermally-conductive sleeve () with a helical profile and an outer insulative sleeve (). An inlet () to the flow path () is located adjacent the heater (), the outlet () being at the opposite end of the heat pipe (). The inlet () is connected to a suspended saline bag () and the outlet () connects via tubing () to a catheter () inserted in a blood vessel. A temperature sensor () in the outlet tubing () provides a feedback output to a control unit () that controls operation of the heater () to maintain a stable temperature.

The pressure relief valve and audible signal generator are incorporated into a humidifier adapter for creating a hermetic seal with a standard medical humidifier container, and the pressure relief valve relieves and regulates the pressure in the humidified gas supply system when an obstruction in the gas flow path to the patient occurs, while generating an audible sound emitted at a predetermined pressure threshold level throughout a desired respiratory gas flow-rate range.

An improved humidifier which may be used with a nasal cannula for high-flow respiratory gas therapy wherein a sterilized liquid is drawn from a sterilized liquid container by a high-flow driving gas passing adjacent to an aspirator tube orifice through which the sterilized liquid is drawn into contact with the driving gas for fracturing the liquid into a mist which is warmed and delivered to the patient or user, and the driving gas is also passed adjacent a condensate return orifice which draws any condensate formed in the humidified respiratory gas delivery system away from the cannula and back into the system for re-use.
