A system and method for of pre-provisioning recovery paths in a mesh network including creating i) a working path between a head end NE and a tail end NE of the mesh network and ii) a recovery path between the head end NE and the tail end NE, wherein the working path and the recovery path include one or more intermediate NEs; provisioning the working path in an activated state, including establishing cross connects of each of the NEs of the working path; provisioning the recovery path in a pending state, including establishing cross connects of each of the NEs of the recovery path; after provisioning the recovery path, detecting a failure along the working path, and in response, allocating and reserving link resources along the recovery path; and activating, by the NEs along the recovery path, cross connects of the recovery path into respective hardware associated with the NEs.

Provisioning recovery paths in a mesh network

The present disclosure may include a method to be performed by an electronic device in an optical network. The method may include generating a message associated with a slot and at least one connection identification (ID) corresponding to the slot. The message may include a slot counter region configured to identify the slot, a request region configured to activate a protect path utilizing the slot, a connection ID counter region configured to identify the at least one connection ID, and a status region configured to convey status of the at least one connection ID corresponding to the slot. The method may also include transmitting the message to other electronic devices in the optical network. The disclosure also includes associated systems and apparatuses.

Systems and methods of communicating path status in optical networks

Systems and methods for multi-domain routing are provided. In some embodiments, a method for determining a path calculation from a source node to a destination node over a multi-domain network is provided. The method may include steps for receiving a predetermined sequence of domains for communicating information from the source node to the destination node, determining a link type for each of a plurality of links in the predetermined sequence of domains, modifying the link type of one or more of the plurality of links such that the plurality of links are unidirectional links towards a destination node, and determining a path along the predetermined sequence of domains based on the modified plurality of links.

Systems and methods for multi-domain routing

Systems and methods for determining multiple paths in a multi-domain network are provided. In some embodiments, a method for determining multiple paths in a network is provided. The method may include determining a first path between a source node and a destination node and determining a second path disjoint from the first path. In some embodiments, to determine the second path includes determining which ingress nodes are available in a domain that includes the destination node, where the available ingress nodes are not part of the first path, and implementing a disjoint path algorithm for each of the available ingress nodes. To determine the first path includes implementing forward path calculations.

Systems and methods for determining protection paths in a multi-domain network

In particular embodiments, a network element filters information sent to a neighboring network element. In the embodiments, the core network element may determine whether the neighboring network element is an edge network element or a core network element. If the neighboring network element is an edge network element, the core network element may set a filter, remove traffic engineering information according to the filter, and send the remaining information to the neighboring network element.

Communicating information between core and edge network elements

In particular embodiments, setting up a circuit in a network includes establishing by control plane logic that planning pre-conditions for planning a circuit have been satisfied, and initiating the planning of the circuit. The control plane logic establishes that reservation pre-conditions for reservation of a resources for the circuit have been satisfied and initiates the reservation of the resources for the circuit. The control plane logic establishes that activation pre-conditions for activation of the circuit have been satisfied and initiates the activation of the circuit.
