Process for curing a thermoset resin comprising the step of contacting said resin with (i) an imine of the structure C(R)(R)&#x2550;N&#x2014;Rwherein Ris selected from hydrogen, hydroxyl, linear or branched alkyl having 1-22 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having 3-22 carbon atoms, aryl having 6 to 15 carbon atoms, and aralkyl having 7 to 22 carbon atoms, which alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, and aralkyl groups may be optionally substituted with one or more groups containing heteroatoms selected from S, O, P, and/or Si. Ris selected from C(R)(R)&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;R, &#x2014;C(R)(R)&#x2014;C(&#x2550;S)&#x2014;R, and &#x2014;C(R)(R)&#x2014;C(&#x2550;N)&#x2014;R, wherein R, R, and Rare selected from hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having 3-12 carbon atoms, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, and aryloxy. Ris selected from linear or branched alkyl having 1-22 carbon atoms, 1 cycloalkyl having 3-22 carbon atoms, aryl having 6 to 15 carbon atoms, and aralkyl having 7 to 22 carbon atoms, and (ii) methyl isopropyl ketone peroxide.

Process for curing thermoset resins

Accelerator solution suitable for forming a redox system with peroxides, comprising (i) an iron compound selected from iron carboxylates, iron 1,3-dioxo complexes, and iron dicylcopentadienyl complexes, (ii) a compound of a second transition metal; the weight ratio of iron:second transition metal being in the range 3:1 to 200:1, with the proviso that the accelerator solution is essentially free of ascorbic acid.

Solution suitable for accelerating the cure of a curable resin using a peroxide, said accelerator solution comprising (i) at least one organic solvent, (ii) a manganese salt, a copper salt, or a combination thereof, and (iii) an iron complex of a tetradentate, pentadentate or hexadentate nitrogen donor ligand.

Accelerator solution and process for curing curable resins

The invention pertains to a peroxide composition comprising, based on the total weight of the composition: a) 10-90 wt % of an organic peroxide; b) 90-10 wt % of an organic solvent in which the organic peroxide does not dissolve; and c) optionally additives; wherein the water content is less than 20 wt %.

Accelerator solution suitable for forming a redox system with peroxides and having a high storage stability, consisting essentially of (a) more than 1.0 wt % of one or more reducing agents, at least one of them being selected from ascorbic acid and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate, (b) one or more metal salts, at least one of them being selected from the group consisting of transition metal salts, lithium salts, and magnesium salts, (c) one or more organic oxygen-containing solvents, (d) optionally one or more stabilisers, and (e) optionally water.

Storage-stable accelerator solution

The invention relates to an accelerator solution comprising a complexing agent selected from the group consisting of complexing agents having a nitrogen atom and a hydroxyl group and bipyridine, a salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of transition metal, magnesium, and lithium, and optionally a solvent, wherein when the complexing agent has a nitrogen atom and a hydroxyl group, the amount of complexing agent in the accelerator solution is at least 5 wt %, based on the total weight of the accelerator solution, the amount of solvent is less than 50 wt %, and the amount of diethylene glycol as solvent is less than 25 wt %, based on the total weight of the accelerator solution.

Methyl propyl ketone peroxide formulations are claimed that can be safely handled at ambient temperature, are storage stable, and give fast curing rates of unsaturated polyester resins particularly when accelerated with a complex of two different metals. The claimed products are particularly suited for thin articles and coating such as suited for use in gel coat systems. The pure ketone peroxides consist of more than 60% by weight of type-4 methyl propyl ketone peroxide and used as formulations containing sufficient amount of a non-aqueous phlegmatizer.
