A printer is configured for printing with conductive ink for applying a conductive pattern to a surface including a wheeling structure for moving the printer over the surface and a transfer unit for applying a layer of electrically conductive ink to the surface. To provide accurate printing with the ability to obtain fine tolerances, the transfer unit has a printing drum rotatable about a printing drum axis and defining a printing drum periphery moving between a first zone and a second zone by rotation of the printing drum. The printing drum periphery, in the first zone, receives the conductive ink and in the second zone transfers the ink to the surface.

A method of measuring the efficiency with which a solar cell converts incident photons into charge carriers, including the following steps: (a) illuminating the solar cell with a broadband light source; (b) illuminating the solar cell with the broadband light source of which the intensity of a selected range of wavelengths has been reduced; (c) determining the change in the number of photons incident on the cell and the change in the number of charge carriers produced by the cell between steps (a) and (b); and (d) using the changes determined in step (c) to calculate the said efficiency measure.

Method of testing solar cells

A printing or coating composition has a non-volatile liquid vehicle carrying a conductive polymer to be deposited on a substrate and is cleavable by heat or acidification without decomposition of said material, cleavage of said vehicle producing decomposition products that are more volatile than said vehicle and which can be evaporated to dry the composition. Suitably, that vehicle is a carbonic acid diester or a malonic acid diester, e.g. of the formula: wherein Ris an organic substituent such that R&#x2014;OH is a volatile alcohol; R1 is an aliphatic or aromatic substituent of more than three carbon atoms such that is volatile; and Ris Calkyl.

The present invention provides a method for producing a layer of organic material. The method comprises The resulting layer of organic material shows an improvement of both the micro quality and the macro quality, leading to obtaining a fully continuous film with minor surface roughness and an accurate line resolution and edge definition.
