A residue chopper comprising a housing forming a cutting chamber, a shaft, knives extending from the shaft, a counterknife support, a counterknife, and a fin. The counterknife and fin are attached to the counterknife support, with the fin behind the counterknife. the fin has a blunt side facing against the operating direction. The counterknife support is movable between a first position in which the counterknife extends a minimum predetermined distance into the cutting chamber and the fin is not within the cutting chamber, a second position in which the counterknife extends an intermediate predetermined distance into the cutting chamber and within the cutting volume and the fin is not within the cutting chamber, and a third position in which the counterknife extends a maximum predetermined distance into the cutting chamber and into the cutting volume and the fin extends into the cutting chamber.

A residue handling system for an agricultural harvester includes a chopper that is positionable within a straw hood of the combine harvester and a seed mill that is mounted directly to the chopper. The chopper has projecting elements for chopping straw within the straw hood as the chopper rotates. The seed mill includes a rotatable rotor that is at least partially positioned within a concave. The rotor and the chopper are connected or unitized so as to rotate together.

A corn head assembly for an agricultural harvester includes a plurality of row units for processing corn plants in rows. Adjustable dividers are provided between adjacent row units to direct laterally adjacent corn plants into adjacent row units. Each adjustable divider has an adjustable divider point with an adjustable operating height profile between a shorter, lowermost position and a taller, uppermost position to adjust the operating height of the adjustable divider for different harvesting conditions.

An agricultural combine including a residue processing system including a straw spreader and at least one chaff spreader. The at least one chaff spreader includes a first chaff accelerator and a second chaff accelerator so that, in operation, chaff particles are accelerated by the first chaff accelerator to an intermediate energy level after which the chaff particles are further accelerated by the second chaff accelerator to an ejection energy level. The second chaff accelerator includes grinding elements for grinding the chaff particles while accelerating them to the ejection energy level.

An agricultural harvester includes a chassis, with a separating system and a residue handling system each carried by the chassis. The separating system receives a flow of crop material producing a chaff flow and a residue flow. The residue handling system receives the chaff flow and the residue flow from the separating system, and the residue handling system includes a residue chopper operationally positioned immediately above a residue spreader. The residue spreader is oriented to receive the chaff flow and the residue flow chopped by the residue chopper.

A crop residue spreader including at least one impeller, at least one radial housing, and at least one blower outlet opening. The at least one radial housing includes a crop residue outlet opening. The at least one impeller is configured to be rotatably driven around a rotation axis such that a crop residue flow is ejected through the crop residue outlet opening of the at least one radial housing, such that the crop residue flow is converted from an incoming crop residue flow into a wider outgoing crop residue flow. The at least one separate blower outlet opening is separate from the crop residue outlet opening of the at least one radial housing. The at least one blower outlet opening is configured to provide an outgoing airflow to accelerate the crop residue flow.

A spreader arrangement for an agricultural harvester includes a pair of spreader discs, at least one cover plate and a windrow chute. The spreader discs are generally horizontally arranged and rotatable in a counter rotating manner. Each cover plate is positioned at a location above a respective spreader disc, and is operable to inhibit a flow of crop material to the respective spreader disc when positioned above the respective spreader disc. The windrow chute has an entrance end positioned below the pair of cover plates and above the pair of spreader discs, whereby crop material is discharged from the top of the cover plates into the windrow chute.
